Lola has gastric reflux ... help :( So lately Lola has been throwing up bright neon thick yellow bile (not foamy though)... not every morning, but more than 4 times in the last few weeks. She had an appointment with the vet and he said she has gastric reflux and needed to be on pepcid ac & metocloppramide (sp) Has anyone use either of these on their babies or do any of your babies have gastric reflux? Also... should I switch her food? She is on Wellness small breed adult formula. I was thinking of switching her to the honest kitchen... the have a formula for sensitive stomachs... any info would be great! |
Not discounting your vet's opinion....but has Lola eaten before she's thrown up? If Ramsey doesn't eat...she throws up yellow bile. |

Not orange like an egg yolk...but definitely yellow. Sometimes foamy. I've learned it only happens if she's too busy to eat breakfast....that's why I asked. Ramsey isn't little either...she's 11-12 pounds and almost 3 years old. Feeding Lola a snack at night...isn't probably helping. It's already into her intestines by the AM....their systems work very fast. Which wellness do you feed? Fish is easy on their tummies...although Reggie had diarrhea issues eating that. I've switched mine to grain free...Taste of the wild...bison and venison |

I didn't think it was a very good idea to feed a night time snack... but on some of the websites i researched said it helped. I feed the small breed adult formula... now that i have been researching honest kitchen... i'm thinking that the wellness has way to much stuff in it. The fish formula is too big... lola only like's tiny food... & she is 9 lbs and could probably eat the bigger kibble, but she is picky |
It's difficult to say whether this vomiting is from an empty morning-tummy or from true gastric reflux. If it's from morning tummy, then it does help to give some protein at night and then in the morning, give a bit of Nutrical or a little bit of cracker immediately upon waking to settle the tummy (before the meal) and raise the blood sugar. If it's truly gastric reflux, it's a bit more complex - bc like in humans, you want to avoid the reflux triggers and that means you have to figure them out. So, if you do think it's reflux - I'd probably try a diet switch to something rather bland. Short term, I'd probably go with something like Wellness Simple Solutions in the Fish kibble (knowing it's only 21% protein); if that works well, you could ramp up to Wellness Core Ocean which has a protein level in the 30s, which is better long term. Honest Kitchen is excellent too - I tried with my guys (I now feed NV raw) - but they tried it twice and wouldn't eat it again - so see if you can sample it more than a few times before buying! As for the meds - with humans, those meds are mostly meant for "flare ups", so perhaps just use them during the food transition then d/c them as they're really not meant for chronic use. :) |

OK... Lola is eating HK force (sensitive stomachs) & her meds seem to be working... She didn't like the texture of HK at first, but now she is enjoying it.I hope this works so she doesn't need the meds anymore. |
