Strange Black Bald Area! 3 Attachment(s) A few days ago I was brushing her and noticed this spot. It doesn’t bother her; there are no bumps on it, the mark is smooth, brownish and does not flake. There is no hair growing out of that spot on her leg; I actually had to lift up the hair to get to the spot. Please let me know if you have any idea what it is. |
I've not seen anything like that before. Hopefully someone else can give you some insite. I would think, even if she's not 'bothered' by it you may want to take her to the vet. Keep us posted, ok. :) |
It could be a type of mange, I would take it to a vet and get treatment. |
You say you found this a few days ago, doesn't this concern you? I think things like this should be seen by a vet immediately. If you had a large section of your hair missing, wouldn't it be cause for concern? Please take this dog to the vet as soon as possible, I hope he will have a good answer for you. Good luck to you. |
My first thought is it could be ringworm...but generally ringworm has a raised area. Ringworm isn't a worm at all...it's a fungal infection. A vet would prescribe ointment to clear that up. Ringworm can also be spread to other animals...including people. Looking at the black area...may indicate she was bitten by something and the skin/flesh has died in that area. I would definitely get her to a vet ... |
sammy has the exact same thing, but his is not black, i washed it off and it came clean like his skin color. his the size of a quarter and no hair grows there. it looks just like yours does. i have had him now for a couple of years and nothing is wrong with him at all. |
Could be yeast. Take her to her vet. I'm sure they'll know exactly what it is and start her on treatment. Mimi had yeast (due to her allergies) and kinda looked like that but smaller. I didn't notice it until I bathed her. Had her seen and he gave us a solution for the water. Pretty much bathe her in this and let her air dry. The spots are almost all gone. |
Ya go to see your vet.. |
Hard to say, but this could also be from a vaccine. My Wylie has a permanent area like this from a vaccine, but some of the hair eventually grew back. The dead hair area is now about the size of a quarter. You should get it checked out though - esp. bc of the blackened/dark area. |
