Worms?? Ick? I don't know. Okay, so I don't know whats going on. Tila had a hard time going to the bathroom last week and I had to help her a bit. It didn't look out of the oridinary. Now today she runs outta the bedroom like a rottie is on her tail, jumps up and down off me and the couch and the comes in to the kitchen and goes potty on the mat by the door. (bad girl) anyways it looked a bit weird like it may be worms, but I'm not for certain, so I bagged a sample and am taking her to the vet tomorrow, gotta go to work and then get someone to cover for me so i can take her in. So if it is worms, its easy enough to get taken care of right. I'm not going to freak, it happens, it happens. Now where on earth would she get them from? Fleas, I know they can get it from them. But I have searched and searched and I can't see anything on her!! She scratches but I haven't found anything. And if it is how do I clean my house and stuff to take care of the little buggers? And since I have two cats and one other doggie, will they all need to get done? How much does the flea stuff cost (for the pets)? Thank you....help..P.S. she was dewormed before she came to me, and then she was just done last month. What the heck? |
I have had a puppy that got worms even after the dewormer. Sometimes it just didn't seem to work, but our vet gave us one pill and it killed them and she was fine. He said to keep other pets away from her poop until the pill had time to kill them. They are very nasty when you see them move...I almost could not touch my baby. YUCK!! |
Thanks for replying. Yes it is yuck. But I didn't see anything squirming or moving. So I don't know. Taking her anyways to get it checked out. |
There are different type of worms. Dogs get tapeworms from ingesting fleas. The de-worming medicine given to puppies...is not for tapeworms. Here's everything you need to know about worms. ;) Identifying Dog Worms and Their Symptoms Yes, multiple pets means everyone gets treated by flea preventative. To save a little on the cost...my three usually share a prescription vs buying one package each for all. Close guessimate on pricing...45 for a package containing 6 doses. If your other dog weighs more than 22 pounds...he will require more than one dose to treat. It's strength is given by weight. The cats would require flea preventative for cats as well. I would bath puppy in dawn soap to kill any fleas he may have now. This method will not kill any eggs you don't get removed though. If you have carpet....vacuum, vacuum, and I recommend sprinkling boriac acid all over and brushing in with a stiff broom. This treatment will kill in fleas in the carpet and will continue to kill any fleas which would hatch in 2 weeks. Wash all his bedding.... Good luck |
Thanks. My other dog is 6 pounds. Tila is 4 pounds. Okay, I'll get washing everything. Does it matter the temp of the water. Also what about the furniture? Her pen she sleeps in? Wash them down, or just vacuum it out? What is boriac acid? Where can I find it? I can't find any Dawn soap here, I read to use the original? But I can't find that anywhere. I just want to do everything right. Hope no-one minds all the questions. |
The dogs are close enough in size to share preventative. No problem. Wash it in the hotest water the fabric can stand. Vacuum anything you can not wash. If your vac uses bags...throw the bag in the trash outside afterwards. Boriac acid....is boriac acid. It's a powder. I purchase mine from a feed and seed type of place as it's used in horse barns to kill insects. The dawn you are looking for...is blue without any other ingrediants...like lemon scent or anti bacterical agents. If you can not find that....use a dish soap which cuts grease. Lather up puppy...and let sit for a few minutes...rinse really really well. If she is going to the vet tomorrow...and you get the flea preventative you want to wait 24 hours before putting the preventative on her. Do not bathe her for 24 hours after applying and be sure to use dog shampoo when you do. Anything else can affect the effectiveness of the preventative. If you do not have her on heartworm preventative...I'd start that too. |
