how much benadryl do i give my dog? so, my poor dog still has rashes/bumps all over her and my sister just told me that she had diahearra earlier today! i'm noticing that she is scratching a lot more and now with her teeth! I went to walgreens and got children's benadryl tablets......what amount is appropriate? a whole one....half.......? help! also, please give me some tips on how to get her to eat it! Thanks all! |
i only know about Children's Liquid- Layla gets 1 ml and she is 6 lbs. |
I've given my 6lb. male half a tablet. |
Well, Pip weighs over 11, so the vet said 1/2 tab, since the tabs were 25mg. |
My vet uses a formula I don't know But she told me this week to give my 3 pound, 10 ounce girl 1.4 ml of the liquid. That is to help her sleep during a flight, so I'm not sure it if would be a different amount if it was being given for allergies or rashes. |
both bella and digs its 2.5ml Diggy is 5.9 pounds and Bella is 5.3 i think |
Cooper is 9 pounds and I give him a half a 25 mg pill and I squish it in a small piece of cheese. He gobbles it up and never knows there is a pill in there. :D |
Dylan broke out in hives this week and his vet prescribed 2.5 ml of the liquid benadryl every 8 hours for him. He weighs 8 lbs. It didn't help that much and I had to take him into the vet for a cortizone shot after a couple doses of the benadryl. The shot worked great and he was like a new dog in less then 1/2 hour. I hope you dog feels better. |
Please call your vet & ask, Every dog is different! |
1-800-petmeds says "The usual dose in dogs and cats is 0.5-2mg/pound by mouth every 8 to 12 hours." |
I think you've gotten your answers up there^, but as far as getting her to eat it, whenever the pooches needed to take pills, we'd wrap it in a small piece of bread or cheese and give it to them that way. Good luck! I hope she feels better soon. Poor girl. :( |

This is a good site to bookmark. It has the dosage for Benadryl and other over the counter medications: OTC Medications |
Rocco stepped on a bee about an hour ago.. the Evet would not tell me an amount to give over the phone, so I gave roccco a tiny chip, maybe the size of a pin head, just in case... he is 2 1/2 lbs.. He doesnt seem to be having a reaction to the bee sting (if it stung him, I could never find the stinger) and only now seems totally tired.. I am freakin out here! Any advice would be great Thanks |

Call the vet and see what they recommend you do in your specific situation, for your specific furry. I don't trust PetMeds or any of the others. They often sell outdate meds. As far as getting my dogs to take pills, which I unfortunately have to do at least twice per day, I use pill pockets. They work very, very well because they're sort of a treat, but others have given good suggestions too. You don't need to spend money on pill pockets. I just don't have much choice because Jasmine is an incredibly picky eater. You can wrap the pill in anything your dog will eat that isn't harmful to them. (Someone suggested cheese). |
I had rather undose than overdose. Mandy is my little fatty (schnauzer) and she is usually the only one that takes Benedryl. I give her 1/2 tsp. For any stings etc. has anyone used the Benedryl spray. I think mine have mosquitos bites because I never see any fleas. I have used the spray and it works pretty good. I also use Witch Hazel too. |
Congested Yorkie Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I need to do to help my Yorkie who seems to be congested! I have heard about Benadryl and steam baths, but what is a proven practice in getting rid of the congestion. Diamond13 |
