Bee sting Shelby just got stung by a bee...in her mouth. she is acting fine except her feelings are hurt. should I give her benedryl? as a precaution? I called the vet. they wanted to see her b/c she is young and tiny (and cha-ching???) I am trying not to over react but at the same time I don't want to be negligent. thanks |
If the vet wants to see her I would take her. Being that she got stung in her mouth you dont want anything to start swelling. I would give her some benedryl just as a precaution. |
if she were allergic to bees she would have reacted immediatly and gone into anafalactic shock (sp:?) ...... since she didn i would watch her, maybe you could give her some ice to chew on toby got stung in the mouth and i didnt even call the vet....... but that is just me |
I had a chihuahua that was stung by a wasp somewhere around her mouth many, many long years ago. The only reaction she had was the swelling. Her little snout swelled so that she didn't look like herself for awhile. But she did fine after awhile. She got extra attention and much babying and little ice packs placed around her mouth for little bits of time. I hope your little one is OK. I wonder if your baby picked one up from the ground. Did you see it happen? We have a wisteria vine and the bees are always out there. Even though it is outside her fenced-in yard, I see them sometimes fall into the grass before they die. A couple of years ago Muffin and I were walking in the big yard and shes stepped on one in the grass and it just barely got her. It was not even enough to effect her after a day. |
thank you everyone I appreciate your insight and concern. Little Shelby is fine and I am starting to think either the bee didn't get her too bad OR she is one tough little dog. She cried when it happened and she isn't a crybaby plus I saw her spit the bee out. I don't see any swelling on her mouth and she was interested in eating her dry kibble so her mouth isn't bothering her. I am glad I have this place to ask questions even though I got 3 completely different answers! It's great to be able to weigh what others did or would do and take it from there. thank you very much. |
I'm so glad she is doing OK. :) |
Awwww...poor Shelbie! Glad she's okay! |
Bruce ate a bee earlier this year and was fine as well, it is funny to me how tough these little guys are! |
Sully got stung by a bee on his paw a few weeks ago. He licked it for hours. I immediately gave him a half dose of children's benedryl (at the advice of my vet) just to help in case he had a reaction to it. He whined for a couple of days but it didn't seem to bother him much unless he was laying down focusing on it. But in her mouth?! What a terrible place to be stung! Bless her heart. |
Glad to hear Shelby is ok. Those darn bees. |
