Ashlee, Please call me and email Dr. Sisson right away. Brownee's dosage of pred is too low for him to go into remission. There is hope of recovery if you follow the right medicine protocol's. Dr. Sisson has a 80-90% success rate if you start his program early. Call me, my Brooke is on Sisson's protocol and is in remission. |
I am sorry you and Brownee are going through this and send big (((HUGS))) your way.... |

Quick Update All the tests for infectious diseases came back negative. So we are going to see an internist tomorrow morning to start additional medications for GME or NME. I am really hoping these med's will help my little guy! |
Oh, Ashlee, I was hoping that Brownee had the infectious form and you wouldn't have to join me in the GME club. Anyway, welcome aboard and call me anytime for anything!! Take care, nanci |
Im so so sorry. You and Brownie will most definately be in our prayers. |
Meds. The meds. do work . Mine is on 2.5mg of pred.and every 3 weeks chemo. treatment. We know she will never be cured but it does fight this disease. There is a lot of hope.the best to you. |
Tomorrow is the big day that Brownee starts the chemo therapy. I'm very nervous but hopeful at the same time. I pray that he is able to make some progress quickly. He doesn't even seem like my baby anymore, like his whole personality has changed. That may be because of the med's and because he is so weak trying to fight the disease. Who knows... :( |
I will keep you and Brownee in my thoughts and prayers. |
Keeping you in my prayers |
Prayers work....And we are all praying for your baby and your family to get through this.... |
Hi my yorkie, Gidget has been diagnosed with necrotizing encephalitis, from reading about other stories on here, I did get a copy of Dr. Sisson's protocol and gave it to my neurologist who is now putting Gidget on the treatment. I was wondering though how fast your Brooke reacted and how soon you saw improvement. Gidget will start her first chemo treatment early next week and is on 5mg of Prednisone daily. She weighs 4 lbs. so they started her on 1mg every 12 hours and then worked it up to 5mg. It seems like at times she is walking better but then other times not. I don't know if I am just being inpatient and hoping to see progress quicker or not. good news is she hasn't had any seizures and we caught it early although she is blind but over the last couple of days she can now see just a little bit out of one eye. anyway anything you can tell about Brooke would be helpful so I know what to expect. Thanks, Lee Ann |
Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear your Gidget has this horrible disease. I am glad you were able to get Dr. Sisson's paper and your neurologist is willing to start the treatment. Now are you talking about Brownee or Brooke. Because Brooke is another yorkie who had GME which is different then NME. I don't know all the differences but I do know that NME (necrotizing encephalitis) is more severe. I will let you know what sort of treatment Brownee has been on, but keep in mind I am not a vet and do not recommend giving your dog any mediciation without your vet's approval. When Brownee (also 4 lbs) first started the pred he was on 7.5 MG twice a day for 4 days, then the dose was tapered down (I don't have the exact dosing from there with me right now). But now he is now on 5 MG once a day. This dosing was given directly from Dr. Sisson. Brownee is also on another med called leflunomide (5 MG once a day). He has also had the first round of chemo. Now as far as Brownee's symptoms, he was having problems walking on his left side and was walking in circles to the right. After a few days on the pred he was able to walk a lot better. He still has problems seeing out of his left eye and still walks in circles, just not as frequently. He was on the pred only for about a week, then the other med's were added. One thing I have learned (from others that have gone through this). Is there is no middle ground with this disease. They are either getting better or getting worse. So any signs of improvement are great! Brownee still isn't himself and he will probably never be exactly like he was before. I know how it feels to be inpatient though. Try to stay as hopeful and positive as you can. I know how scary and stressful this can all be. Let me know if you have any questions at all. |
You and Brownee are in my Thoughts and Prayers... My heart broke when I read your post about Brownee. I hope the Drs. treatment works and you have your baby for many more years... Blessings and sending Prayers up for all of you...:aimeeyork Baron and his Mom |
Prayers for you and your sweet baby! |
