Bee sting My poor baby got stung on the paw by a yellow jacket. I got the stinger out, gave her Benadryl, and held a cold compress on it but she is still in discomfort. I called the vet and they said I did everything I could just keep an eye on her breathing.She is breaking my heart. She can't seem to settle down. She has moved from place to place and can't get comfortable. Is there anything else I should do? I can't stand seeing her like this. |
Maybe a cold compress where she was stung would help? I'm so sorry, I worry about bee and wasp stings all of the time. What the vet said about her breathing is right on the money. A friend of mine's Yorkie girl was stung about 2 months ago and was allergic. She had to rush her to the vet, because she couldn't breathe. Good luck. |
Try putting some baking soda on a damp compress and holding it on the site for a few minutes. This tends to sooth the site itself. Otherwise, sounds like you did everything. Poor baby. If she doesn't want you to hold anything on the site, mix up a strong batch of water and baking soda and put it in a small cup or container. Have her stand with her foot in the mixture. |
Poor baby. When Lucky got stung it took about 6 hours before he stopped limping. It was pitiful. I felt so sorry for him. They are tender little things for sure. |
She is feeling much better now and able to rest. The vet told me to keep her off it as much as possible so I am sitting with her. I am just soooooo glad that she wasn't allergic. This is the first time she has ever gotten stung. |
Oh! My poor Sophie! I hate that you got stung...but I am glad that you are doing better now. You know how much your Mama worries about you! Tell her that, after a little while, you want something very special for dinner...and a little treat...AND from Daddy...a new toy!!!!!! :p xoxoxoxoxo |
I can sympathize with your poor baby. I got stung by a wasp on my finger about a month ago and it hurt so bad. Stupid me, it was in the house and I spotted it on the floor so I had stepped on it and thought I killed it so I picked it up with a paper napkin and it stung me through the napkin. :mad: I have never had a sting hurt that much. I can only imagine how much it would hurt a little yorkie. I pray she will continue to get better. |
300 vet visit After not knowing that piper was stung by a bee. I thought she had broke her foot... she was screaming and licking her foot that was swollen and bruised. Her vet didn't seem to think it was a bee sting but after having x-rays that came back negative for fractures I'm thinking that it really was a bee or wasp. Her foot is all bandaged up right now and she seems to be walking fine on it. I don't know if I should keep the bandage on or not?? Plus i think her doctor is a complete moron. This poor little girl is having one hell of a week. |
Bees, wasps, hornets...love me. I get stung almost every year. I don't know why. I try to avoid them as much as possible. Thank God, I am not allergic. Now I don't know if you can use this on dogs, but when I was young I was stung 10 times on my back (accidentally disturbed a wasp nest and they swarmed me)...anyway, my friend who I was with and got a lot of stings as well - we ran to her mom's house yelling our heads off. She proceeded to put a clump wet tobacco on our stings. Within about 10 minutes it doesn't hurt anymore. I have been doing this for every sting since. I don't know why it works, but it does. Again, I don't know what it would do to a small dog - but if its safe, you might could try that in the future. I'd ask the vet. |

Bee stings can be very dangerous for dogs. Keep liquid benedryl (you can find dosage online) and give it to her immediately if you suspect a sting. Everyone should learn about anaphylactic shock in dogs. If she had this type of reaction the first time it may be worse next time. My last Yorkie was VERY allegic, went in to shock twice. After the first episode I kept an epi pen and prednisone with me all the time. Very scary. |
Benedryl and the Epi pen will buy the pup time... they still need to see the vet for further treatment if they go into anaphylaxis. |
I have tried many home remadies over the years.....wad of chewing tobacco over sting site. Baking soda + water paste on site....damp Lipton Tea bag over site for 10 - 15min.....meat tenderizer + water paste on site....Tabasco sauce dabbed on site (the capsaicin and vinegar works gaginst the venom)..... |
Mud works well too, especially if you're not close to home when it happens. |
