have you heard of this?! 2 Attachment(s) I got my little Ozzie a week and a half ago. I took him to the vet for the 2nd time. This last visit today was to get him his first vaccine. He was given a distemper (sp?) and that's it. He played a lot when he got home. At nap time when I picked him up he yelped. Weird. For the past hour or so when we pick or adjusted him, he yelps. Almost as if he is hurt but then just goes back to sleep. I know after a vaccine dogs can become lethargic, so the sleeping doesn't bother me. There is no swellness or redness. Just the yelps. Has anyone heard of this? Is it possible the vaccine caused some sort of problems around his front legs/chest area? Thanks! |
now he is panting...should I be concerned or can this be nornal for first vaccine? My other dog had absolutely no issues. |
Well Jack just had vaccines today and 3 weeks ago he got his last distemper shots. He yelped and cried today when he got his bordetella injection but not since then. I haven't heard of this and Jack has never exhibited this behavior. If he continues tomorrow, you may want to get him to the vet and let them check him out. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck with your new little one. Keep us updated! :animal36 |
Maybe he is just sore where he got the shot! How big is he?? Is he drinking any water at all? Has he ate?? If you are worried- take him to a vet- or call! |
A shot can cause a lot of soreness. Even when I get a shot in my shoulder, I'll be tender there, like a bad bruise - for a couple days - so it's kind of like that. For actual reactions, you want to look for extreme lethargy, swelling in the face/cheeks, white gums, glazed over eyes. |
my littler ones are always sore. I ask my vet to use the extra tiny needle and that seems to help |
I would say that chances are it is from the shot site, but if you are really worried, call the vet. If nothing else, it will put your mind at ease. If it is something, the vet can advise you. |
I always request the smallest needle but still sometimes mine will cry if picked up for days. |
Thanks for everyone who responded. It's hard not to be concerned when your little one doen't seem right and it's the first vaccine. Today he is back to his old spunky self. I think you are all right. Just a little sore from the injection site. Will definitely ask for a smaller needle. |
