My Dallas 1 Attachment(s) Thank you so much for the help. I can't see the specialist until weds or thurs and I can't stand to see Dallas hopping around on 3 legs although he's been in good spirits and playful with his sister Roxi. I will contact the vet to see if I can leave work early and bring him in for a splint or something. I've been told that I am overreacting but my yorkies are my kids and my youngest baby is injured. Thanks again for your kindness, help & concern, I will definately keep you posted. |
I was hoping you would post on the sick and injured forum, people on that forum tend to know more about medical emergencies. I do not think you are over reacting at all. This dog requires attention. Trust your instincts and get your dog to the vet as soon as possible. I'm just surprised with two fractures you vet didn't want to see him imediately. Good luck. Here's the post on another thread for those who might have more help. Quote:

Well, no fracture should be left to heal on its own. Depending on the type of fracture, a splint may do or surgery may be necessary. In either case, the longer you wait, the more the leg tries to heal and the bone builds up calcium in its mis-aligned state. I had a little girl that broke her leg last November by stepping in a hole while running. I didn't think it was broke, just sprained, so I waited a few days to go to the vet. Turns out she had broken her leg at the elbow and needed surgery. The surgeon said the waiting wouldn't affect how she healed but made his job harder as he had to scrape the scar tissue away that was building up. She is fine now but I had to treat her like glass, keeping her very still, for 8 weeks (not easy with a 5 month old puppy). The surgery was $1000 but today she is fine. I didn't have the money either so I had to use a credit card. Please follow your doctor's advice and don't let him just try to heal. You should also be limiting his activity now that you know it's broken until you see the specialist. Sorry to hear about your baby but he really needs to be taken care of ASAP. |
