Health Question I took my pups today to be wormed, the nurce somehow put that they needed there shots, They are 5 weeks old, after the first shot. I asked told the vet that I did not know that wormer comes in shot method, he sais no this is there shots. I said but they are only 5 weeks is said oh it sais you wanted them to have there shots, I asked him if it would hurt he said no so I let him do the rest. I need comforting opinions if possible. I do not want anything to happen to them although I trust my vet you never know. |
Five weeks is way too young to give shots. That said, what is done is done and if they are all acting fine, it should be okay. You might have to give an extra round though since this set would've just interfered with maternal antibodies and made those and the vaccine ineffective. You will probably need to give three more rounds three to four weeks apart or give two (less likely the vet will want to go this way), three to four weeks apart after waiting a few weeks. |
He said next dose in 2 weeks, my little one is only 11 oz and he did her first I almost fainted after he did it. I should have went with my gut insteanks and asked when I seen the needle, being new I thought I was wrong. :( they seem to be playing fine the little one is a little less active, but she does play. They was givin 4 hours ago, would I see something very wrong by now? |

I really don't know why they are saying two weeks. From what I've read, that is too soon. |
I do not know what the vet is doing.... Typically they are not given vaccines until a bit older, and then the next rounds are given every three weeks. If I were you, I'd be looking for a better vet. :aimeeyork |
The little one is now vommiting, does that come with the wormer or could this be from the shot? I was told normal shots start at 6 weeks was I wrongly informed? After the first I should waite 3 weeks not 2? |

Some vets start at 6 weeks but that is very young, especially for Yorkies. What was the brand of the wormer? Vomiting is not normal. What color are his/her gums? Pink or pale? If they are anything but pink it is an emergency. If the vomiting continues call the vet. It would be a good idea to call even if it doesn't continue. |
Gums are pink. I do not know the name of the wormer. she is sleeping now I will keep a close eye on her. |
Vaccines at five weeks are a waste of time and money, not to mention an unnecessary risk. The puppies still have maternal antibodies for the diseases they vaccinate against which attack and kill the virus in the vaccine. Vaccination Options/Prevention Puppies should not get their first vaccine until they are at least nine weeks old. Here is Dr. Dodd's suggested vaccine protocol which has been adopted by twenty-seven vet schools. W Jean Dodds Vaccine Protocol VACCINATION PROTOCOLS |
