Terry won't stop licking everything and then vomiting! Help! Hi there, I have a 7 month old Yorkie named Terry. She is my first dog and I'm absolutely crazy about her. Two days ago she started to lick things more than normal including her paws and face, as well as the bed sheets, us, well pretty much anything within licking distance. On top of that she has also been vomiting up yellowish guck. I am waiting for the vet to call me back to give me some advice, but in the meantime does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with Terry? Thanks for your time. Leigh  |
I hope Terry feels better soon. I don't really know what to tell you. It is good you are in contact with the Vet. Licking her paws can mean allergies. Lick other things can mean she also just likes to lick things. Why she is throwing up, I don't know. It is always something new with my babies, they always having me guessing... Please let us know how Terry is doing. |
Vet thinks it might be her new teeth Thanks for your support! The vet thinks it might be that her new teeth are coming in and the puppy teeth haven't fallen out yet. She has 'double fangs' on the bottom of her mouth and this may be why she is licking so much. I'll keep you posted if i find out more. |
Chachi seemed to lick more often when he had double teeth too. They were recently pulled. |
Teeth pulling So did you have to get them pulled out or did they eventually fall out by themselves? Thanks! |
They pulled them recently when he was neutered. They were his eye teeth and they said the roots were in so deep they never would have came out on their own. |

These babies are so hard to figger out! Has your baby been altered? If not, could be pre-heat behavior..As has been said, increased licking can be allergies and frequently is. I f she licks only certain spots and the vet okays it, use Tea Tree Oil from the health food stores..actually, i buy it at the groc. store. Apply tiny amt on the area with a cotton applicator..it is antiseptic and the dogs don't like the taste..Use only the pure oil not a shampoo, lotion or soap. |
The 'in heat' suggestion may be a good one! Yeah, she is at 7 months and has an appointment to be fixed in another week. Oh my gosh, hard to believe that my lil' gal could be that old already!! I went to the store and got some more chew toys today. We have been really getting her to play with them and chew as much as possible. Thanks everyone for all your help. It's so nice to have somewhere to go to talk about this stuff. Best, Leigh (aka. Terry's Mamma) |
Sounds like she ate something with a taste that didn't agree with her and she is trying to get rid of the taste. |

When my sister's dog was trying to eat and lick everything including his poop, her vet said he was deficient in something causing him to "crave" something he didn't know he needed (Does that make sense?). She gave him some special vitamins and he completely stopped. Well that is until he discovered he could reach into the trash can  Just a thought. |
