scratching and panting odie wont stop scratching! i mean to the point where he is making himself bleed. and its not flees...what can i do for his itchy skin??? and he keeps panting really hard too!!?? always as if he has been runnin a marathon or something.... help! |
Did this just come on suddenly? It sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Do you have any Benadryl on hand? |
I would try some benadryl. when my baby had fleas she itched so bad and got a rash so I bought a pill cutter and cut a benadryl in half and she was fine.. I didn't notice any side effects except slept for about an hour after giving it to her. I give it to her when her skin is dry as well.. you may want to call vet just to be sure for dosage though |
Is the benedryl dosage half of a children's benedryl? |
Never mind I just saw where you said to call the vet and ask  I should read the print more closely! |
If I use the children's Benadryl pills I give 1/2 of that. If I'm using the liquid I give 1/4 tsp. |
I would take him to the vet. Panting can mean that they are in pain or scared. I just learned this from my last trip to the animal hospital 2 weeks ago! |

It is probably allergies. I would make a vet appoinment and they will give him a shot to relieve it. Jersey just got her shot today. She was scratching a lot too. Check his ears too. Allergies tend to cause a build up of dark wax. I would def. take him to a vet. He needs to be seen and treated. Elaine |
well when i took him to the vet for his hot spots she told me to give him benadryl along with another med and that seems to be helping but i dont want to have to give him benadryl everyday for the rest of his life ya know |
1/2 of a childrens dose is generally safe. I know we had a four week old goldendoodle come in with an alergic reaction and that is what our vet recommended. It also depends on the size. |
