hypoglycemia I'm so afraid to sleep. ever since I woke up to violett not responding and her being lifeless in my hands, rushing to the ER vet to save her, I cant sleep Its like having a new baby and watching them sleep 24/7 mackein sure she is still breathing then making sure she eats every 4 hr. If anyone has some words of incuragement right now i could sure use some, Or if anyone has been trough this and can tell me that it will get better for us please let me no. Thank you. Michele |
Michele when they are very small free feeding is best. |

Are you leaving food out for Spanky all the time? Have you tried using Nutri Cal if he seems lythargic. They act as if they can't keep there head up or shaking some. They seem lifeless and not thereselves. |
Hopefully she'll outgrown it and it won't be a concern. I'd give her some nytrical before going to bed too. |
We are all here for you. She wont be so prone to hypoglycemia as she puts on more weight just hang in there |
When I had gotten lulu she was a 1 lb and 10 ozs. I used to free feed her and then before bed give her a couple honey nut cheerios. She never crashed on me. Then when she got a bit heavier I was able to schedule feed her..I noticed she only ate at certain times anyhow. Feeding a well balanced and nutritious food helps a lot in keeping them from crashing. I have also read that putting karo syrup in their water bowl is a good additive until they are larger. |

You might have given her sugar overload. You can't give both the karo all day and then nutrical multiple times as well...it's double the sugar. |
I am glad your little one is ok. Do not overdo the sugar intake. What a scary experince that was for you. :aimeeyork |

I dont know for sure if it is too much, I was giving nutrical 3x a day as directed by vet but the vet also said to make sure they eat about a 1/2 hour after giving it because it helps stimulate their appetite and if they did not have any food after the nutrical it could cause their sugar to fall. |
Karo or nutro. You said you gave it to her in her water and was also giving her it by mouth (nutro). You can't do both. It's a double dosage of sugar there. Also what food are you feeding her? I used to grill a piece of chicken or give lulu a scrambled egg here and there to add to her line up and keep her going. Not every day but as an addition to a good solid food. |
The breeder had her on little champions which she did not really like we have her on ceaser puppy which she loves and will eat all on her dish in addition she free feeds with the royal canine mini kibble (she mostly plays with it). thank you for the chicken brest info hubby at store now getting her some. How much should i give her of that? as much as she wants? what about banana? |
I would give that baby as much food as she wants. Bananas are fine. You can cook the chicken divide in smaller portions and freeze it for later feedings |
Being that small you can give her a few bites of it. You don't want to over feed her...LOL. The Cesars is kind of junk food and not all that nutritious. I would invest in a good food. The RC is not something I would feed because they use corn as a filler. I feel if you feed them the best quality food you can then they are healthier. I never had any episodes with Lulu and now I have Zoey and at almost 10 months she is just 3lbs. No episodes with either and they had gone to scheduled feedings. As a snack at times and a training treat I used the honey nut cheerios or you can give regular cheerios. They are healthy and they seem to love them. I always offer fruits and veggies to them..I think the only no no is grapes (check the boards for more on fruits and veggies). I feed Merrick's. Love it because it's a 5 star food, has little chunks of fruits and veggies in it. No corn or filler. |
I had a similar experience with Deegan when we was young... we were out doing errands, and he was in his puppy purse with me... He didn't eat his breakfast that morning and didn't want any treats, but he was still his playful self, so while we were out his sugar got really low and when I saw that he didn't look right I flipped out! He was very limp, glossy eyes & just not responding well. I was ran through the mall to find a place that would have honey or suryp... I ran into a Burger King and got some honey and water, and just dipped my finger in the honey and put it in him mouth and slowly tried to give him water.. It was pretty messy because he wasn't swallowing it all. But I just did this til the honey package was gone and called the vet. It was a Sunday and luckily the vet was on call (on his boat) he told me that what I did was good and to try and get him to the emergency vet. So I gave Deegan more honey and water and drove like a mad woman to the emerg. By the time I got there he had improved alot!! They looked him over, gave him some nutrical and some treats to eat. Needless to say I bought some Nutrical of my own and always carried it with me everywhere and gave it to him when I thought he needed it. That only happened once and he seems to be fine and I haven't given him nutrical in some time. They will grow out of it, but I do understand the worry and panic that comes with the experience. Good luck. |

Like everyone has said the most important thing is to make sure that baby eats and has a bedtime snack to help her through the nite. I would buy puppy small kibble to leave out in case she needs it and feed a really good food like puppy Innovia or Welliness. If she won't take Entracal or Nutracal even some Kayro syrup on the gums helps with the blood sugar and sometimes stimulates them into eating. Mine like the little animal crackers or graham crackers that are in the shape of little bears to snack on. Good luck and take good care of that little one. They are soooo tiny and helpless. |
Thank you so much Violett is doing so much better today . I still wont be crating her at night tho. I have set up another pen for her and leave fresh food out be for going to bed. then set the alarm every 4 hrs and check on her, this way I can always be near her, were still a little afraid to go to sleep for fear ill wake up to another problem I cant tell you how relieved i am to hear her barking and jumping to get out and play. today so far she has Had 3 feedings. chicken babyfood mixed with her reg food about 2 table spoons. she wanted 2nds of the last feeding so i gave her another table spoon. I broiled a chicken breast for tonight and plan on giving that to her. she loved the chicken babyfood so i hope she eats this as well, Until i can switch her to a decent dog food like wellness, Do you think the chicken breast is ok by itself? Ive yet to find a Kibble she likes (so mostly plays with it) even when a get it a little wet she turns her nose up. and for a snake i give her the cheerios she loves them you all sugested. she also gets a little lick of karo before each feeding. Thanks again for all your help in getting me pass this. God bless. Michelle |
I am glad Violett is doing better today. When I got Cali, now 3 years old, she was 9 weeks old and 1 lb. A few days after I got her I woke up to her unresponsive, I gave her nutrical and got her to the er vet. She was a terrible eater and I had to feed her whatever she would eat to get her to eat. The cesars was the one dog food she would eat and chicken. I had to feed her every 3-4 hours and she wouldn't eat kibble so I had to get up and feed her. She did outgrow it finally at 8 months of age and know she will eat anthing! Hang in there it does get easier. |
