Rectal temp taking?? Can we take our pups temp with a human rectal thermometer? Moose hasn't been feeling well all day! He is lethargic (good gum color~~nice and pink) He feels warm. I want to see if he has a temp. We don't have an after hour clinic. My vet is out of town. Thanks for any advice. :animal-pa |
So I took his temp....it's 102.7 |
A human thermometer should work just fine. Normal temp varies depending on who you ask. 102.5 is as high as I personally would want to see it and I would be happier if it was 101.?, so maybe call the vet tomorrow if things don't change for the better or sooner if gum color changes? |
Thanks Crystal. I did call a vet here in town (not ours) The answering service said they will give him the message. I hope he will call back. The nearest 24 hr clinic is 1.5 hours away. We are wondering if we should talk him there? |
Hope Moose feels better in the morning. Hate it when they don't feel well. Warmly, Deborah and Charlie |
Normal rectal temperature is 100.5-102.5 so he doesn't have a fever. How to Take Your Dog’s Temperature |
102.7 is just fine. If it gets to 103 and stays there or above then i would be concerned. Normal range that i would be comfortable with is 100-103, but you need to judge their overall condition as well. |
