Prednisone or no Prednisone If you have a 10 week old 1.1 lb female that has just developed Tracheal Bronchitis can you give them prednisone? The vet will give an antibiotic its pretty much safe and I know this can last for up to 1 month with out going away. If it is viral and not bacterial and the inflamation is what causes the cough, then wouldn't prednisone help? What are some homepathic remedies that could help? |
1.1 pound at 10 weeks? How long have you had this puppy? Maybe you should contact the breeder. This might be just the beginning of a long line of health issues. As for the prednisone, it is dangerous stuff and can cause a lot of other problems. |
I wouldn't give anything without the vet prescribing it. Steroids are pretty harsh, I definetly wouldn't give those. I hope your baby starts feeling better soon. You've had your fair share of health issues with all your babies lately, haven't you? Blessings for all of you. Tammy |
I grew up in Ottumwa and Bloomfiled Iowa. Anyway are you thinking this pup is a too small for her age? She eats well. I think the pup had coccidia when it was younger. The breeder told me they give all there dogs Albon as a preventative measure for 14 days. I got this pup on July 13th and I took her to the vet on Monday 14th and the pup had coccidia so I am treating her with Albon again. I called the breeder and she told me ," Maybe the stress of leaving here brought this on and she did not leave here with it." I emailed her what I knew about coccidia and she replied she never knew. The pup is responding slowly to Antibiotics . I wish I knew something that would boost her immune system? |
Steroids suppress the immune system. The breeder should pay for the vet bill. There's no way she contracted it at your house unless your other dogs have it. They usually get it from their Mama walking through poo and the puppys getting it in their mouth. How's she doing today? |
