SEcond time with another Dog Last year in July I bought a male, he slept with me in my bed till he fell asleep and then I put him in a basket on the floor by my bed. I sleep with a fan blowing at my face. I didn't think it would hurt the pup, with in 24 hours the pup develpoed a cough and I took him to the vet with in 2 days and he had Trachial Bronchitis. I just got a new little girl she is only 1.1 lbs and my son fell asleep with her on his chest and he had a fan blowing on him. Sure enough the next day the little one had a cough this was on WEd. morning by Friday the vet said she has Trachial Bronchitis, she is on Clavamox. I am so upset. I started the warm moist vaporizer and I do thumping on her rib cage to help her cough up anything. So far she hasn't expectorated anything or if she has she is eating it. I can't believe this happened again. Last year my little one ended up in the hospital with pnuemonia, I was a nervous wreck, he had a slight cough it seemed like for ever unless I gave him an antibiotic daily . both times the pups were partialy covered up with a blanket. |
My babies sleep with me all the time and I have a ceiling fan that is always on. When I first start out with a new baby, he/she is in a soft sided carrier on the bed. I do put a light weight blanket on it and leave only the side towards my head uncovered. I have always intended for each of them to sleep with me. i don't know if I have just been lucky or not, but have had no problems with any coughs. Hope your little ones get better soon. Puppy kisses to your babies. |
Bruno sleep s with us most nights. He woke up a few days coughing cause our room gets cold. he was fine afteran hour or so. I jsut started keeping a fleece throw at the foot of the bed for him to sleep under. he ducks under it and doesn't have any problems |
I would think it is more a viral infection that both puppies had when you got them like a kennel cough. I had a puppy come with kennel cough and she gave it to my older dog and it took 3 months to get rid of the cough completely. All of mine sleep on my bed and I have a fan on 24/7. Hopefully she will get over it soon. |
Ceiling fan and a pedistal fan at bedside Quote:
If the pup was sleeping by my head and couldn't really go anywhere if she got cold? Or could it have been brought on by dust etc that collected on the blades of the fan that was in desperate need of being washed. I don't know. It jsut seems weird 2 different dogs within a year in the same month July. |
Viral Quote:
It's got to be bacterial or viral. I was thinking the blades on the fan could of been washed off more often. The pup I got last year had a cough (Kennel Cough), that progressively got worse, I bought the pup and went to the vet within 6 days and I should of went sooner. With this pup I went to the vet the next day and she had coccidia in her feces , but her lungs were clear and she wasn't coughing, or sneezing. That's why I'm wondering if that pedistal fan had something to play in this. |
Wow that sounds rough. Anyway you can angle the fan from blowing directly on you & the pups? Or get a window AC unit? Also could you let the pups under the covers? My boys sleep under the covers when they get cold! They just nose the covers until I lift them and then they go under. It amazes me how HOT they like being when they sleep! They press up against me and I get sooo hot I need to take the covers off of myself and just keep them covered. Can you put jammies on your babies if you dont want them under the covers or they dont want to go under the covers? That might help keep their body heat in a little better. Good Luck and I hope your baby feels better soon! |
