9wk. old yorkie sick Hi everyone- I am new to this forum and I am happy that I have found you all. I have 2 9week old yorkies and they are brother and sister. We picked them up on July 4th. The girl yorkie got sick last Tuesday and started having seizures. They are under control know and the vet still does not know what she has exactly, but has ruled out a liver shunt. She does still have diarrea from the food she is eating. She was in the hospital all of last week, finally coming home on Tuesday. Today, my boy is sick. He has vomitted three times today and has diarrea. He ate a little bit of food today, but made him sick. I am waiting on a call from the vet, but any suggestions? Also, to top it all off, I called the breeder about this and she will not return my call. Thanks in advance! |
How is your baby doing now? Has the vet called back? I am praying for your little one. |
Is your breeder local to you? Maybe you could go to her house and talk to her. There was obviously something wrong with the puppies when you got them! Good luck with your babies and welcome to YT! |
He is just laying around now. He has been drinking water, so I am happy with that. The breeder is local and we may take a ride out to her house. I do not want to give the dogs up or anything, I just want her to know. I have spent about $1800 in Vet bills and I have had the dogs for 1 week. |
This is so sad:( I am so sorry . Did you have a health contract at all?. Oh and welcome to YT. |
I am so sorry your babies are sick and the breeder is not getting back to you. I hope they both get better soon. |
It sounds like your babies could have Coccidiosis. Nasty stuff, but can be treated. What ever it is I do wish you all the luck with your babies and the Vet. Let us know how they do. |

Update- My little boy (Loki) stayed overnight in the ICU at the vet hospital. He was dehydrated and they did not find an obstruction or anything. They did test for coccidia (you all are brilliant). They did not decide to test for this until this morning. Hopefully, this gets him better and they have seen Bella (his sister) so much that they are sending meds home for her as well. I am praying that this is the light at the end of my tunnel and these two little ones get health. Thanks for your insight. I do appreciate the help. |
Its hard to think that there are breeders out there that sell those puppies and then won't answer a call when they are sick. Tells me they know and don't care. I hate to hear your bad luck that you have spent so much in a short time of being new puppies. I hope the rest of your time is well worth every cent you spent. They are really personal dogs and they will bring a smile to your face daily. |

Best thin you can do is continue to rule out medical problems and just if you have to - feed via syringe meat baby food... We had to do that for several weeks as he would not touch his food. We went through 3 different types of dry food, tons of baby food, canned foods, etc... He was very sick. I highly suggest feeding baby food for a few weeks several times a day. As much as he will eat. But do not buy ham/pork baby food as that has a high risk of causing pancreatitis. Good luck! I wish you well. |
