Suggestions???My 9 month old Yorkie sick again My Yorkie Reese has started having bloody with yellowish discharge with his stools. They were loose for a couple of days and are starting to get normal and now this has happened again. About three months ago this happened and Vet said it was a virus and added to that Reese ate some box woods to go along with the virus. I can't think of amything different and now he is doing it again. He is normal acting n behavior just dripping a little blood, muscous discharge after deficating. Anyone got any ideas? The Doctor said he thought he had gastritis last time and it cleared up in a few days. Anyone else every had this happen multiple times? I was trying to decide if we should try a new food or something. He is on Purina One for puppies as that was th eonly food we could get him to eat several months ago. Thanks so much!:animal-pa |
I'm not sure what could be wrong with him but I hope that he feels better. When I first got my puppy he ate purina puppy chow and I had to find a better food that he would eat, because the purina made his poop soft and stinky, he scratched etc..But once he was off of that all of those symptoms disappeared. I am very sorry Reese is having these problems. I do not like the blood in the stool. It could be from parasites, or any number of things. Take him to the vet . No kind of Dog food would produce this.... Reese might have gotten into something, or could have a blockage. Take him in ASAP. :aimeeyork |
I would take your furbaby to a vets asp. The blood in the stool, can't be a minor problem. I hope all is well. |
Thanks Thanks for all the info. I know it is not the food as he has been on it for 4 months now. A friend of mine thinks he might have colitis. Said her Yorkie does. He is acting fine and has a temp of 101. When he did this before doctor said it was a stomach infection and gave him anitbiotics, pepto, and chicken and rice for 3 days it all cleared up and he got better. He does seem to have a sensitive stomach as he has upset stomach when he gets upset but only for a few hours. I know that they said the breeder had gave him too much worming medicine when I first got him. He weighed less than 2 pounds and was doing some of the same things as he is now. They checked him for all kinds of things and said he had tonsilitis and kennel cough two days after I got him. I took him back a week later and they said he was fine then when he was like 5 months old he did it again. Vet seemed to think it was from shots and getting upset and we changed his food, so the saga continues. I plan on taking him tomorrow and see what they say this time. Thanks so much again!!!:animal-pa |
So sorry your pup is having such a terrible time. :( Hope everything goes well at the vet and they are able to diagnose him.. :) |
Chip gets like that if he gets any vaccinations. |
My pom has colitis and sometimes for no reason she has bloody loose, mucousy stools for a day or two. I never change her diet and she doesn't eat things she's not suppossed to. I have some medicine the vet gave me so when she gets a bout I give her the medicine. She is 11 years old and has had this her whole life. Maybe ask your vet if it could be this and see what they recommend. Hope he feels better soon. |
What you're describing doesn't sound good - take him to the vet asap. Another thing too about the Purina - not a good food... typically if they sell the dog food at grocery stores or stores like Walmart it's not a quality food. Try pet supply stores (but not pet stores) and see what they recommend or you can get a list from the Whole Dog Journal for approved pet foods. The first ingredient should always be a meat protien and have no by-products in it at all. Keep us posted on Reese and what the vet says. I hope that everything improves soon. :animal36 |
