Yorkie shaking, cant walk A few days ago, when my husband and I got home from church, our yorkie who is almost a year, was shaking and panting, her heart was racing. When she would try to get up, she would stumble and fall over. SHe couldn't walk. We were scared to death! After a few failed attempts at walking, she didn't even try after that, she would just whimper because she wanted to get up. But It didn't seem like she was in pain. We didn't get a hold of any vets and so we had to just say prayers and wait it out til we could get a hold of someone. Well, the next morning, she was fine, back to her usual self and hyper as ever. Anyone have any idea what in the world was going on with her? We have a vet check up soon, but I wanted to know before then... THanks! |
I'd get her to the vet today It sounds likely to be a hypoglycemic attack, and Yorkies are very prone to that, but I'm not a vet. Make sure she's eating and drinking, and at least call your vet today and describe the symptoms. |
It might have been a neurological issue but it is a good sign that she is better. There is a small chance that she was experience hepatic encephalopathy. That is when the toxins that aren't being filtered by the liver properly affect the brain. This happens often if the pup has liver shunt. She should be bile acid tested. Since this is the first you've seen of it, maybe it was just one of those strange happenings but it sounds too serious to just happen once. Can you get to the vet today? It could've been hypo like another poster said but had she ever had that before? |
blood tests Being in the human medical field I would say that a blood test is in order to rule out the liver, hypoglyecemia and any neurological episodes. |
I agree...This yorkie should have blood work done..Full blood panel and bile acid test. |
