Throwing up at night. I'm stumped! 3 days ago Layla threw up first thing in the morning... just liquid ... other than being a bit tired that morning she was fine... completely normal.. that night (monday night/tuesday morning) she threw up in her crate.. again.. just liquid... was fine all day until around three when she threw up more liquid.. but ate and played and was full of energy... and then last night she threw up more liquid... at first i thought it was the Benedryl i had given her Sunday and Monday because it can sometimes bother her (i gave it to her on a full stomach and she seemed not bothered at all.. not even tired because of it). Right now she is playing like a puppy.. hasn't thrown up today and has eaten both some treats and her lunch... i only gave her a small amount to make sure she wasn't going to be sick. She doesn't have anything to eat around bedtime (10 pm) and usually eats her supper around 6-7... any thoughts? i am hoping to GOD she doesn't do it again tonight.... |
Weird:confused: If it is just liquid though, are you sure her stomach hasn't been empty? If it keeps happening and you can't figure out why, I'd say it is vet time (sorry I know you were just there).:( The only other thing I can think of which I know doesn't apply in Layla's case is, has she been licking at something that she isn't supposed to? Or maybe an ingredient in her food in bothering her or her vitamins? It would probably be more than liquid if that was the case though. |
Marcy~ I hope she doesn't do it again either. I hate when they do stuff like this! I think if it were ME, I'd try giving her a little boiled rice or potatoes maybe closer to bedtime and just see if it helps. I give Madison a Tablespoon or two of his boiled rice (I boil rice with ground up turkey in it and use chicken broth when I cook it, just mainly for flavor) in the evening and it seems to help keep his stomach settled. It's bland and it keeps his stomach from getting too acidy I think. If it keeps happening though, I'd take her in to see if maybe she's got some sort of gastritis that maybe would be better with Pepcid or something (don't just give her Pepcid though... make sure you check with your vet first). Let us know how she's doing! |

Would she eat some plain yogurt? Or if you could get some natural vanilla yogurt (make sure it has the "active live cultures" in it though.....maybe sweet potato? Would she eat that? I'm just trying to think of bland things.... Actually, I feed Madison (I feel like a broken record sometimes, b/c I yap about this so much, but everybody doens't read everything I post (hopefully)......boiled rice with ground turkey that's been cooked in chicken broth instead of water. And that's what I give him a little bit of before bed (Max gets kibble, Madison gets his rice). Maybe someone else will have some good alternatives :) |
I'd give her a snack before bed (whatever you can get her to eat). If the vomiting doesn't stop, I'd stop the glucosamine. If it still doesn't stop I'd be on the vets doorstep. |
Choco throws up every now and then too... I have not been feeding him human food at all, and I always watch him so he has not been consuming random things on the floor.... he is still active and very energetic, he still eats regularly and have not changed his appetite... do you think there's a problem?? also, lately he just makes those "gag" noise and does not throw up... sorry to have to say this, but I think he swallows it afterwards instead of letting it out.... what should i do?? |

If it's bile (yellow/green) color it's ok it's an empty stomach. Is she very small? Have you had her bile acid tested? P use to throw up alot and I had him bile acid tested and then a sonogram diagnoised a shunt.:( |

Poor little baby. It sounds like bile she is throwing up. I agree with some of the others about giving her something to eat before bedtime. Its good she has something in her little tummy when you give her Bendryl. I always make sure mine has something because I just don't like to give even vitamins on an empty stomach. Hope she gets better. |
