Snickers's bottom is bothering him, and me! Hi, I'm pretty much at my wit's end here and was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on this for me... My little buddy, Snickers, is a yorkie with a bottom that is driving him (and unfortunitely me as well) crazy! he is constantly barking at me unless I rub his backside and if I leave him or even stop rubbing his backside he just barks like a mad man again. I've been to the vet (twice) over these last few days and his anal glands are perfectly fine, no worms in his stinkies, x-rays showed no blockage in his little belly or digestive track, his hip(s) are not dislocated and his blood work came back normal. Yet he is constantly dragging his bottom on the rug and constantly barking at me to rub his little bottom! the only time he isn't going nuts is when I take him for a walk. Yesterday it was 8 times! The vet said they felt it was a behavioral issue but this would ne a new behavior I've never seen before. Anyone have any ideas?!? Thanks for your feed back, -Goulaay (Michael) |
I'm sorry I can't help. You've already done all the things I would have suggested. This one is a new one on me too. Has he been groomed lately? Sometimes mine will scoot a little after having his little bum shaved. But I've never had them want me to rub it though.. Is he intact? He may think it is a little love ritual?? I don't know.. grasping for straws.. Hope you get to the "bottom" of things quickly.. ;) |
maybe try a little vasaline since you ruled out the normal stuff & see if that helps ? something must be causing this but I have no idea what it could be either....he's been flea checked and not scratching anywhere else ?? |
If vaseline doesn't work, you could try some hydrocortisone spray. Maybe it just itches. |
OK, I just went thru that with Murfee. Went to the dr. and had anal glands expressed, bloodwork, fecal exam and still he would scoot his butt on the floor until it was raw and red. Took him back and they gave him a shot to stop the itching. Two weeks later he was at it again. Went back again for another shot. Two week later, the same thing. One day he was sitting on my lap and I noticed something that looked like rice caught in the hair of his backside. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM called the vets office and they said that was tapeworms. Got a pill to give him and another for 3 weeks later (this was just last week when he got the second one) and NO MORE ITCHING. I was a little upset at the vet for not finding it until I talked with Cindy (chattiesmom) and she told me that the fecal exams don't usually find tapeworms. Good luck |
