We have them here. They seem to spread more every year. I forget if it was the twenties or thirties when they were brought into this country by boats??????? Anyway, you northerners, someday they will probably reach you, too. I know we didn't have them here when I was a child.

Make sure you use the "food grade" diatomaceous earth and NOT the type that you use in the swimming pool filter.

I was so busy talking about food grade that I forgot to send kisses to Marcel!! Sorry you got bit, Marcel. :( That happened to Juju Bean about a month ago. It scared me so bad. She threw up and her gums turned white!! I grabbed the benedryl and syrup and gave her some. She was fine in about 15 minutes (on the way to the Vet's Office...who was closed :rolleyes:)

Oh no, poor little guy. :( I'm so glad he's okay but I still feel terrible for him. Give that precious little munchkin a great big kiss from all of us. ;)

Awwwwwww, thanks everyone for so many well-wishes for my little punkin'! Those little ants are GOIN' DOWN! I can't believe all these great suggestions for getting rid of them. Who knew?

Yeah, they can hold their breaths for short periods of time. I saw a program on the Discovery Channel (before VH1 existed :D), and scientists were trying to figure how they migrated from one island to another. It turns out the can make a little water wheel, and "swim" through the water coming up for breath and going back down again, wheeling there way through the water.

freaks.... I think ants are my new hero, they are amazing.

Oh Ann I am SO SORRY that this happened to sweet little Marcel as well! Gosh do I ever remember when it happened to Tatum (and I was just going to post a link to my thread about it until I saw that you mentioned it - so I knew that you remembered) - anyway....man was it BAD! :( Gosh, I still remember that like it was yesterday and I know that I will never forget it - her poor little gums were as white as paper! :eek: :cry:

I am SO glad that Marcel is ok and you did some very good quick thinking with the Nutri-Cal and Benadryl! :thumbup: You may see some whelps (ant bites) come up on him in the next few days...I know I sure did with Tatum...she had a TON of them all over her tiny little body :(

Our poor kiddos! I am sending lots of warm thoughts and hugs to precious little Marcel and again, SO glad that he is ok!

Yep - it was poor Tater's horrible incident that spurred me into action bc I remembered that incident so well! And what you had to do afterward. She had it way worse than Marcel, but I remembered what you did - and that helped me help Marcel. So, tell Tate she helped my little fella :). Thanks for your sweet well-wishes. :)

Poor Marcel!!! I am so glad he is OK!

I hate to sound like a broken record - but the Critter Oil keeps critters away!! I am seriously not using any preventative other then the Oil in Miami and we have fire ants, ticks, mosquitos, fleas and everything else. Bugs HATE the smell of critter oil, but I love it. It makes my doggies smell all aromatic and fresh.

Its one of the best investments I have made! I rub it diluted on the dogs paws once or twice a week and nothing on the ground will bite them!!!:cool:
