Sleepy, trembling, then seizure My baby yorkie has been sick ever since we adopted him a week ago. He just kept getting sicker... We took him to the after hours vet emergency clinic because he was trembling nonstop and had no energy after feeding him sugary stuff like Marshmallow cream and Puppy Booster stuff. Didn't work. Well it wasn't more than an hour after we got home that he stood up, walked out of his crate and collapsed in a siezure. Lasted 5 seconds. So we let him rest a little bit then fed him beef baby food via syringe. He rested some afterward then he started getting active. He peepee'd then drank and played a long time bouncing around his enclosure then he drank some water!!! And peed again! OMG... So relieved! He started to wake up but went back to sleep. We are going to feed him baby food again. Trying to do about ever 2 hours or a little longer. I hope this will get his health up and running. |
:aimeeyork Your little pup needs to be seen by a vet. Something is not right, and I would be very scared if this was my new pup.:aimeeyork I hope he will eat for you and drink, however, he really needs to be seen by professionals. They probably will want to do blood work on him, take his temp. and stuff.:animal-pa He could get worse, though, and that is why it is vital to get him the care that he needs.:aimeeyork I am very sorry that he is ill. I do not understand why a person would sell a sick pup that is not right. :aimeeyork |

We did take him to the vet and they said that the only things wrong was low protein and low blood sugar. Not bad, just a little low. I don't think that vet is used to seeing tiny 1.8 pound dogs... So, he's doing much better now. We fed him about a half hour ago and he took to the food (via synringe) very very well. We fed him more baby food than we did last time. I think he's getting better. I think the problem was hypoglycemia. We will keep a very close watch on him today. |

If the vet said hypoglycemia, you need to go to the store and get him some nutrical. It is sold in any pet supply store like Petsmart. That is the goopy stuff you saw them giving him. It will raise his blood sugars. Also make sure he is eating every 3 hours until he gets a little bigger. He can die from hypoglycemia! I AM trying to frighten you! It is important to get him checked out again and keep his blood sugars up! |
My Cali had problems with hypoglycemia and we nearly lost her several times. I had to make sure she ate every 2-3 hours even during the night. Definatley make sure he is eating often and get him to a vet asap if he seems to be crashing. I would have him tested for liver shunt just to be certain he is ok. Petland has sold many sick puppies and I would hate to see you hvae to go thru that. |
geez that shounds scary....it does sound like hypoglycemia to me as well... i hope ur baby feels better soon..... |

Are you feeding him human baby food? If so please check the ingedients for onion. Some times the manufactures put it in to enhance flavor. Its very dangeous for dogs. I hope you baby gets over this soon:( |

Please...please...tell me you will take your baby to a vet ASAP for a thorough check-up. Yes, this must include blood work... with a bile acid test. Hoping he is doing better...please let us know. |
