Not Drinking After Neuter and Teeth Pulling Logan was neutered yesterday morning and had 20 baby teeth removed. He has been lethargic ever since. I brought him home yesterday around 5 p.m. He ate a little bit of food but drank NOTHING. He peed quite a bit yesterday, but was given IV fluids all day. He still has had nothing to drink. I called the vet, and she said if he doesn't start drinking by tomorrow, to bring him in. I put some water in a syringe and gave him water that way. That's all he has had. He seemed very uncomfortable last night and this morning, so I got pain medication from the vet this morning and gave him a dose. He has done nothing but lay in his crate. He has peed outside twice today, and his stools are almost like diarrhea. Does this sound like normal behavior following a neuter? |
No, I wouldn't say it's normal behavior. By the next day....all of mine acted like they had had nothing happen the day before. Back to their normal behaviors. Also realize...when we associate having teeth pulled...it does not affect them like us. Isn't there a possible ls issue with Logan? Dogs with LS have problems with anesthesia. |

Yes, his bile acid level was slightly elevated in both tests. The first one was 75, the second test last week came back 33 (normal is 20). So you think maybe he's having a problem from the anesthesia? |
Hot Rod drank and ate food the night of his neuter and 14 teeth out. He was very tired and sleepy for about 3 days though. But he was still kinda acting normal even though he tired very easily and quickly. I would probably call the vet. |
Logan FINALLY drank some water this afternoon. He seems to be perking up a bit more and became very excited when I squeaked his favorite stuffed bear toy. I think he's going to be OK! |
Be careful with pain meds and compromised liver...My yorkie had a horrible reaction to the pain meds they gave him after his first surgery and was lethargic followed by vomiting a LOT. We almost lost him, but it sounds like Logan is looking better!! That's great news! |
