Bad Reaction I took my new puppy TJ to vet Saturday and he received his second set of shots (DA2PPVC(5-1 w/Corona) I have no ideal what that is. I just know that within an hour he was very lethargic and you could not touch him without him yelping. He slept most of the day. The next day he was not so lethargic but he still hurt when you touched him. It took about 48 hours to get back to normal. The only thing that is not back to normal is his ears they are not standing up anymore. Will this change? |

Amber...Glad the babies are doing better! Scout did the same thing and wouldn't even get out of bed for a day and a half after having lepto. The vet put on his chart "no lepto" and I don't get it for my others either now. |
Amber, how are your babies doing now? Are they feeling better? |
Reply OMG the vet gave Lepto I have never given my puppies or adults the Lipto. I give the shots myself so a vet doesn't have to agree or disagree. Then I also KNOW what kind of shot they were given  I also had a yorkie die when the vet gave him a Rabies shot so he could fly. My Little guys daughter also had this reaction but fortunatly they could get her back to the vet so he could save her:D It was awful to have him die in my arms when we was in the air. Since it was a different vet and he/she didn't know that you didn't want it, I'd try to let it go. When Ellie had a reaction I was very upset (and still am) that they didn't warn me of the dangers but I don't think that necessarily makes a bad vet. In some areas of the country lepto is a serious problem (like Michigan) and some vets that give it just think they're doing the right thing (while others want $$$). Now if you asked the vet not to give it and they give it without your consent, they need to have a grievance filed against them. It is YOUR dog and they can't make this decision for you. When Ellie reacted it looked like she was dying. It was sooooo scary. Because the vaccines were given in combination (DHLPP-C plus rabies) I can only guess that it was the lepto that caused it. It could've been the rabies and I wouldn't know now because they were all given together. Please, for everyone reading this, NEVER give this many vaccines together and NEVER give the rabies with another vaccine and don't give the lepto with another vaccine if it can be avoided and avoiding corona is best too. It is safest to give all vaccines separately but I know that doesn't work for everyone (and the downfall is all those injections which aren't healthy). You should see a severe lepto reaction within 20-30 minutes and it is not uncommon for dogs to be lethargic and not willing to eat for about two days. And I think the Fort Dodge lepto vaccine is slowly becoming inferior to the pfizer vaccine. |

My pup's breeder gave her two diiferent rounds of vaccines, and the vet would not accept them? She only needs the rabies vaccine, and that is all. If I have too, all take her somewhere else! :animal-pa |
