9 week old yorkie seizers? My 9 week old yorkie male pup ruggers this morning started what look like a seizer, his jaw locked up i used corn surup thinking maybe hypogl. and he snapped out of it was tried most of the day then to night he started it again it lasts about 20-30 secs.. anyone have any ideas? |
The only thing that comes to mind is either hypoglycemia or epilepsy. Hypoglycemia can recur very quickly; it can take a day or two for them to fully recover from an episode. I would treat him as if it were this for now (treat the symptoms) but contact your vet. Any abnormal behavior in such a young pup can be very dangerous. Is he eating well? Does he have these episodes when he first wakes up? If it happens when he first wakes up, epilepsy should be considered. but still, treat the symptoms. I have a male that had 2 episodes when he was a pup. They both happened when he first woke up. They were dramatic but passed quickly. He's now 1 1/2 years old and has been fine the whole time except for those 2 episodes. |
Sounds like a seizure, but you really need to take the puppy to a vet. Especially since it's not just a one time thing. |
It was Hypogl. he recovered with in 30sec of geting surup. hes eating well. No change in his behaviour, i am going to be watchin him more carefully .. thank you for your help.. |

sorry i forgot to mention that i am responsible with my pets i have an appointment with the vet of course. i wanted to see if the symtoms of the seizer like action was a symtom of hypogl. or if anyone else had the same problem. i have found others who have had the same symtoms.. thanks again for your concern. |
If it's happening some time after eating, then you should probably have your dog bile acid tested...Hypoglycemia happens when they haven't eaten, but if the seizures happen some time after eating, it's not hypoglycemia and could be related to liver shunt... Idiopathic epilepsy is usually not seen in young puppies like this. There is usually something causing it. |
