Why would a dog vomit blood and then be okay the next day? I had to run last night with my Yorkie mix to the emergency vet after she vomited a large amount of blood. She had seemed fine all day and then vomited once, out of the blue, and then about an hour later vomited a large amount of blood. I rushed her to the vet and $250 later, they found nothing wrong. She seems fine today and had no futher episodes of vomiting, no diarrhea. Part of me could kick myself for jumping the gun...thats alot of money that I dont have to blow, but, on the other hand, as a nurse myself, I know bright red blood in vomit cant be good. If it had been a person I would have taken them to the er, for sure. So does anyone know what could have caused it and am I wrong that its not always a serious sign of something wrong? As I said it is almost 24 hrs later and she is fine now. In fact, had no more problems after the last vomit. |
No idea, but bumping it up for someone else to see ! |
Are you 100% it was blood? Did you take it in and have them gauaic test it? I'm sure if you thought it was blood, it was, but to be totally fine now, just ruling out it not being blood. Otherwise, I don't know what to say. I am in the medical profession for humans and am thinking of ulcers, and other types of GI issues that would cause vomiting of blood, but dogs are sooo different. I don't know, I really wish I could give you an answer. I hope everything is better and the pooch is feeling 100% :) |
Did she get stressed or eat something different? I was thinking maybe colitis or gastroenteritis. Glad she is better |
Well, I didnt guiac it...Im an Rn also, but she didnt eat or drink anything red and it sure looked like and smelled like blood, but who knows? She is perfectly fine now which makes me feel like a fool that I spend $250 for this. |
