Advil and inducing vomiting. Please help! I have a four month old yorkie. She weighs just under 2 1/2 pounds. Last night we found her playing with a 200mg Advil Liquid Gel. :eek: The pill was punctured, but we have no idea how much could have gotten into her mouth. I call the emergency vet and they told us to give her 1/4 tsp of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. We did that and within 6 min she vomited twice. The first time she threw up quite a bit. The second time she vomited it was just a little bit and as soon as she threw it up, she ate a little bit of it. This was all about 12 hours ago. Since then she has been acting fine, except just a little bit ago, she acted like she might throw up again. Should I be worried? How long until the advil and peroxide would be out of her system? Her urine and stool both look like normal. She hasn't really drank or eaten that much this morning. I would just really appreciate any help or information. Thank you, A very worried mommy :( |
I am sorry your baby is having to go through this. These little stinkers can sure get into trouble. It sounds like you did everything the right way. I would suggest you give her some karo syrup and water to help settle her stomach. Also, a little Nutri-cal might help since she is not up to eating yet. I would just keep offering her small amounts of food and hopefully she will be back to her normal self soon. |
Hi J, I just saw this, I hope Chanel is back to her normal self. I'm sure she is. Oh the things Abby and Daisy have gotten a hold of!:eek: They are just like little toddlers, putting anything and everything in their mouth. :hug: I'm sorry you were so worried. |
hi! her belly is prolly upset from the peroxide still....I have had to induce vomitting a few times and Diggy gets a lil slow for 24 hours....its very normal. The side effect of advil is long term nothing happens immediately normally. From what I read when i thought Diggy ate a motrin was it makes them go into kidney failure within 2 weeks BUT it takes more than just a little bit of one. If it was just punctured I doubt he got it all PLUS you induced vommiting so Id say you are 100% safe! Good thinking on calling the vet and always keep peroxide on hand i have used it 3 times on Diggy and he is only a YEAR!! lol |
Whew! Well....after numerous calls to both Chanel's vet and the ER doctors...Chanel is fine. We took her in to the vet on Monday to have blood work done to check for EVERYTHING. Tuesday morning we got a call that Chanel is 100% fine. They said said she is "a perfect little puppy". Which...I TOTALLY agree with! :) Both doctors said that if something would have been wrong...we would have noticed it within the first 72 hours, but the blood test is definite. I needed some actual proof that she was fine and I would have done anything for it. So...I guess if anyone else ever has this happen, I was told that within the first 72 hours we would have seen vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy, had the advil effected her kidneys. I was also told that 100mg per 1kg will cause GI upset and that 300mg per 1kg is lethal. :eek: It can take 20-30 min for the stomach to start absorbing the liquid, so induce vomiting RIGHT AWAY! We were told to give straight hydrogen peroxide. Our puppy is 2.5lbs and we were only supposed to give up to 1/4 tsp at first and if she didn't vomit within 15 min, then up to another 1/4 tsp, but NO MORE THAN THAT as it can cause damage too. So...as of today...no worries and she's in perfect health. Thank you to those who were concerned. :) I really appreciate it, and so does Chanel. |
