Just wondering if any furbaby owner have encounter problem with their Yorky having Cancer issues. I met someone who own 6 years old male Yorky whose suffering cancer, and her owner was really devastated that his furbaby has only limited time to live. Can anyone share their experience...:confused::animal-pa

I can't say I have ever had a yorkie with Cancer but one of my dogs (a Chow mix) had cancer. We found him years ago (someone dumped him out of a truck near my stepfather's business in the desert) we rescued him and gave him a wonderful home. He was so loving and perfect, he was what made my stepfather love dogs again... He later got cancer and it was a terrible experience. He was so sick, it was hard to see him. Our vet told us that most people that had dogs who had such advance cancer usually just put them down. My family was not about to accept this so we took him to many many vets and paid thousands of dollars. My stepfather even took him to Pheonix (we live in El Paso, TX) and found someone to do surgery on him. The surgery done was one normally done on humans only. We wanted him to live so bad we tried this and paid thousands of dollars for it. He ended up passing away about 2 months after the surgery.

It's a terrible battle. Cancer is a horrible disease. We loved that dog (Chuckie was his name) til the very, very end and did everything we could and he still passed away. Just tell your friend to cherish every moment with her dog. Just love them and comfort them. I wish there were a cure...

A former boss of mine had a german shepherd that she had raised from a pup that came down with cancer at age 12. Her husband worked out of town and I felt so bad for her. She would go home and find that Dixie had really been sick sometime during the day. This happened a few times before she took her to the vet and within a few days she had to put her down. Because of her position she had to come straight back to work. We cried together but now she has 2 other german shepherds' and their names are Duke and Daisy.

Thank you for sharing your story about this topic because I was really sad and disturb for the little Yorky suffering this type of disease, but my mind was clear when it come to cancer. It effect us all human or animal. Yes, it is hard and frustrating to see our love one suffering with this type of disease that money or wealth can't save our love one from this disease. Hope and pray they can find cure for all types of cancer. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:)

My COrdy has a bald spot on his right shoulder blade where a cancerous tumor apparently was when he was born or shortly thereafter.... all I know is that he had surgery and that the vet removed his testicles at that time too....

Wow, your dog was so lucky because you found it earlier before it get critical. Gee, how did your Vet found that out. Did you get specific exam for that? Now, I am curious because I want my dog to have that exam. My Cacai just turned 3 years old last May 5th.

I unfortunately have dealt with cancer in my shih-tzu that was 12 1/2 years old. She had acute lymphoblastic leukemia and passed away about 2 months after she started having symptoms. The information I got from my vet was that cancer is much more common (at least A.L.L.) in larger breeds of dogs. My dog started with swollen glads and what looked to be an eye infection. Even with antibiotics and steroids she wasn't able to fight even the eye infection and things just kept going down hill. At first my vet didn't really think it was cancer (I declined blood tests and things of that nature) but I had to take her back a couple days after she was done with her 1st antibiotic and it was at that visit he confirmed it.

So from what I've heard, cancer isn't common in smaller breeds but possible. Again, just my experience and what I heard from my vet. My only advice is to just enjoy the time and days the dog has left.

I don't know how they found out. We adopted Cordy after his other human mommy had passed, and this was all the info that we received.
I do need to call around though and see if anyone around here has his vet records....

My T.J. had surgery last year for a cancerous tumor that completely blocked his intestine. He was 11 years old and I always said I wouldn't have the surgery done if one of mine came down with it after 10 years. When his biospy results came back it turned out it was a very aggressive type of cancer and he was only expected to survive 3 months. It will be a year on the 22nd and he is doing well. I have no regrets but know he could get sick again at any time

With all the cancer I have seen in my human family...I hope to never see it in my fur family. It is a dreadful disease...

Yes, we had a sweet beautiful yorkie named Scrunchy. He was only 2 years old when we found out he had lymphoma sarcoma with a tumor in his lung. I was going through nursing school and noticed his respiration count at rest was very high. When we went to the vet they did an xray and diagnosed it. The vet said it was unusual that a young dog would have cancer at such a young age. We went through chemo treatments for a couple of weeks. The cancer went into remission for a month and then came back with a vengence. It was the most heartbreaking time and I just remember what a joy he was even with the short time he had on this earth. From then on I vowed to always have a yorkie in my life. Of course now I have three yorkies that bring us so much joy. There will always be a place in my heart for Scrunchy and it brings me a smile everytime I think of him.

We had a beautiful two year old girl named Zeva. We noticed that she wasn't acting the same. She was having accidents in the house, was breathing very heavy and was crying all the time. Our 1st visit to the ER vet said that she just had an intestinal infection. After a week, we noticed that she was not feeling better. We took her to another vet, which did x-rays. They referred us to a specialist. After a ultrasound, they found that she had a very aggressive cancer that had overtaken all of her internal organs. It was a huge mass with many nodules. There was nothing we could do. That was the hardest thing my husband and I had to do, was to put her down. I just didn't want her to be in pain anymore. I think about her everyday and I think that she had an amazing life while she was here. We still have our other yorkie, Abbie. We will get another once we are ready. I just don't understand why this could happen to one so young!

There are so many different types of cancer out there. I lost a Black Russian last year to malignant lymphoma. I chose to do chemo treatments as she was only 3 1/2 yrs old when diagnosed. She did not respond to the treatments, and we had to put her to sleep on the Mothers Day weekend.

Cancer human, or canine is a scourge! We do have a few members on here that have had Yorkies with cancer, a search through this forum should yield some threads about their experiences.

Generally speaking cancer does seem to be on the rise across all breeds, and some breeds have a huge risk, Golden Retreivers for instance.

I do hope for the best for your friend and their dog.
