New owner of a yorkie. My yorkie is 3 months old it seems like he's always very tired. This is my first yorkie and I'm not sure if yorkies are supposed to be this tired at 3 months old. He plays for about 45 minutes to an hour then sleeps for a good 2-3 hours (with occasional wakings). I have been trying to take him walking around my block and he's very unenergentic. He literally sits on the ground and won't walk. I've taken off the leash to see if he'd walk and he does, but he slowly slowwwly walks behind me. He seems to have no energy. He barks sometimes to get attention when we have him in his crate, but i'm so concerned that something's wrong. My breeder isn't much help, so if anyone is experiencing the same things with their yorkie, or has experienced it, or even if it's normal please let me know. thanks. |
I don't think this is normal. I would take him to the vet. I know that yorkies can have problems with low blood sugar that can make them tired. I would do a thread search for hypoglycemia and see what you can find. I know this topic has been talked about a lot on YorkieTalk. I just don't remember all the detail as this has not been a issue I've experienced. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I don't think it is normal. You could try to give a little Karo Syrup or Pancake Syrup (if you don't have any Karo Syrup) to see if that may perk him up some. Just enough on your fingertip for him to lick it off. You also might want to call the er vet and see what they say. Maybe someone with more experience will come along and give you some more advice. I'll keep him in my prayers! Keep us posted! |
Sorry about your little guy. I know many pet owners and breeders say to make sure you have Nutri Cal for puppies handy and that you can also use Karo Syrup if your puppy is acting this way. I hope someone else comes along and explain it better:( Yeah thanks LittleMansMomma! |
Just checking to see how the little one is doing? |
oh please get him to your vet asap! .. there could be absolutely nothing wrong with him, but with any concern your vet will have the right answers. Ree |
My max is the same way. He has been a bit sick today vomiting but nothing serous i think. Anyways, Max is exactly the way you are describe.. I asked my vet about it there was nothing wrong with him. He said just give him time, he might be adjusting. I have only had him for 5 days now. I might try with the sirup like some people are suggesting.. I cant the the other stuff here in China, |

Max is about 3 months. I have a thread here also explaining that he sneezes and coughs |

I have been to the vet the past 2 days actually.. and he has been given shots both days for sneeze and cough and some pills also for the cough.. I think he might not be able to take the pills because his vomiting only started when I gave him the pill with some liverpate.. I have seen the vet 3 times in 5 days and they keep on saying there is nothing wrong with him.. He may have a little "cold" thats all. Heart beat and temperature is perfect according to the doc |
Sounds like you are being a very diligent parent!! I hope that he improves in the next day or so, if not, I would get a second opinion from another vet....maybe you can find one that sees a lot of Yorkies. |

The other thing is that he could have a liver shunt....have you done any testing for that? |
welcome to YT. Please let us know what the vet says |
