Crystals in Urine Hi, Has anyone's yorkie ever been diagnosed with a high Ph level in their urine that causes crystals..My little guy has this, he was on Rx science diet for the longest(yuk!) ...I finally changed his diet, thank goodness. He is now eating canidae and is doing great, but I wanted to put him on a supplement to keep his PH level down...any advice? Margaret |
Hi! Margaret, My little guy had crystals in his urine last year and like you my vet wanted to put him on prescription Science diet. He also was on meds. I did not like the idea of any of it so I pulled him off and started feeding Canidae wet. I wanted to find something that would help him in a more natural way. I came across Solid Gold Berry Balance. It's a powder that is nothing more than cranberries and blueberries. To start out I sprinkled it on his food twice a day and then went to once a day. For Odie it has worked. You might check it out and see what you think. My vet was surprised.:animal-pa |
What kind of crystals did they find specifically? Were they calcium oxalate or struvite or something else? If they were calcium oxalate, it's important that you feed a food that contains low oxalate ingredients because these stones are recurring... If they are struvite, these are typically caused by a UTI and the dog needs to maintain urinary health. Solid Gold Berry Balance is a good supplement that helps to maintain urinary health particularly in dogs who have issues with UTI or struvite crystals/stones. Regardless of what types of crystals your baby produces, it's important to increase the moisture intake of your dog. The urine should be dilute to prevent the formation of stones... Equal parts water should be added to equal parts food at each meal to help with this if your dog eats dry food. Canned food is preferred for dogs who have stone/crystals because of the moisture content. Also, high moisture treats like seedless watermelon. Good luck!! |
