Roscoe has Giardia Poor little boy has Giardia.....I've done as much research as i could on this parasite but i thought i would consult in you guys for some advice and info.......he's been on his medication for 5 days and he seems to be getting better I just want to know if anyone else has gone through this with their pups....apparently he got it from one of the other dogs in the apartment complex because people don't like to pick up their poop. I just want to make sure he's gonna be ok and if there are any ways to prevent this from happening again.....any added info would be great.....thanks |
Been there... My little Lexie had it when I got her. I bought her at a pet store before I knew better. She started having bloody diarrhea on Christmas Day so we rushed her to an emergency vet and he gave her 3 shots including a vitamin B shot to perk her up and gave us a weeks worth of antibiotics. Within an hour she was a new dog! She was perky, running around, playing, she even barked for the first time. It was the best feeling a new mother could have. After the week of antibiotics she was right as rain and we haven't had a problem since. I hope your little guy gets better soon. I've heard from other people on YT that it hasn't been so easy to get rid of. I guess I was just lucky. I'll keep your little guy in my prayers! |
I am sorry your baby is going through this. I found a very interesting article on giardia this morning. I hope this helps: Managing Giardia in the Carrier Dog |
Ughhhh....Giardia. I know what you are going through!! Ralphie just got over it, he had it for about 4 months. It can be very tricky to get rid of. He was on 4 different medications for it (Panacur, Metronidazole, Albendazole, and Ponazuril.) Ponazuril finally did the trick. Not a lot of Vets know about this medication yet from what I am told. Also, it is extremely important to keep his area clean. Bleach will kill the cysts. His drinking and eating bowls should be cleaned after every use and bleach should be used to clean up the floor if he poopies there. Hang in there. Maybe you will be lucky and it will only take 1 medication to clear it up. Let me know if I can help. After 4 months of the stuff, I kind of feel like a Giardia/poopie expert :p |
Yeah Javah had this last month and we think he might have picked it up at the groomers:mad: We had no idea until a few weeks had gone by and we noticed watery slimey stools but he seemed to be ok. Besides the diarrhea. We first was given the Metronidazole and once the stool results came back we were given Drontal Plus, 5 pills that seemed to do the trick. We are now extra careful when he's outside to make sure he doesn't drink out of puddles or smelling other feces too. |
