Scooter is hurt Scooter jumped off the recliner today and hurt his back leg. He won't put his weight on it but doesn't seem to be in pain. When I pick him up, he allows me to touch and move it. If it was broken, wouldn't there be pain when I touched it? If it's not better tomorrow I guess it's another vet visit for him. He was just there last week. :( Thanks for your advice. |
I'm sorry Scooter got hurt. How big is he? If he's tiny, I'd be concerned of a broken bone. It could also be luxating patella, which is when the kneecap goes out of place. Libby has LP and that's the first I knew of it, when she jumped off a table she wasn't supposed to be on. Is Scooter holding his leg up? That's what they usually do when they have LP. Good luck! I hope it just turns out to be a sore muscle or something that heals quickly! |
This little furbaby Yorkies just think that they are bigger than what they are. I have ramps everywhere because of my Pommie. Chipper sometimes chooses to not use them and it scares me. He has very long legs and I have read that they are more prone to breaking. He weighs 4.5 lbs. but is taller than my 5.5 lb. Rosie. |
Poor Scooter.Roxie fell off the ramp the other day and wouldn't put weight on it at first.I crated her and left for a while to let her rest and she was fine when I got back, If she was still limping the next day I would have taken her in. Hopefully Scooter is better today. |
Oscar has broken his leg TWICE (same leg — I'm not a bad mommy, I promise :() and both times he screamed like the dickens! There was no mistaking it! He may have hurt his foot or it could be LP as another poster has suggested. If he continues to avoid putting weight on it, then I would take him in for xrays. |
He didn't let out a whimper when he jumped down and hasn't since. Today he is putting his weight on it some but still walks gingerly. When he runs, he holds it up. He lets us rub and move it and I know he wouldn't do that if it's broken. Thanks for all the replies. |

hope your little scooter gets better soon ~hugs~ |
Please let us know how he is doing. Tricksie is 9 lbs and jumps off off of everything. Now, I will worry more. |

I have ceramic tile except in the bedrooms. Glad the baby is better |
So glad your pup is improving. Charlie, 10 yo., insists on jumping on and off the bed. Last week, he also had some pain in his hip and I massaged his back-side several times a day. That seemed to help and now he is okay. They definitely "yelp" if something is broken or causes them great pain. Warmly, Deborah |
Scooters limping and holding his leg up when he runs, sounds like Libby with her LP when she first had a problem with it. I've been giving Libby a liquid Glucosamine complex called Flexicose and she hasn't shown any problems in months. I get it on Ebay. It lasts forever for these little dogs. Hope Scooter is improving! |
