Torn ACL Do We need surgery Maggie hurt her leg running down the driveway. I took her to the vet yesterday and they determined that she tore her ACL. They are telling us that surgery will cost between $1200 and $1400. I've been reading threads and it looks like it is about 50/50 whether to have or not have the surgery. This came at a bad time and we really don't have $1400 for this surgery. however, we will work it out and do what "is Best" for Maggie. She is about 5 yrs old. We have the consultation with the surgeon tonight. I have a feeling that he will say that surgery is the best option. Please help. We are up for suggestions and would like to hear other's past experiences. |

My 4 month old yorkie recently had an injury to his left front leg, he slipped on the stairs. I took him to the vet who took an xray but couldn't tell if it was a fracture or growth disc so he referred me to a specialist who recommended surgery at $3400. I can't afford the surgery so I elected to keep my baby quiet to see if injury will mend as that was also a possibility. The thing about the surgery there was no guarantee that it would have worked perfectly. I have seen a vast improvement after 10 days as he was using the leg but wary of putting too much weight on it. I pray for the best. |
We are also helping for the best. We consulted with the surgeon and he recommended that we wait for four weeks to see if it gets better on its own. We have to keep her quiet for four weeks though. that will be a task but hopefully this thing will heal on its own. Im thankful that we saw a surgeon who told us the truth and did not pressure us into surgery that we cannot really afford. Thank you for the reply. |
