Fluid sound coming from Bailey's chest Hey everyone. I got Phoebe and Bailey spayed today. Phoebe is doing good but Bailey (my daughters long haired Chihuahua) has somewhat of a cough that sounds as if she has fluid on her lungs. When she coughs a clear liquid comes out her nose and her chest is loud. It isn't constant but it's enough to have me concerned (maybe once every 20-30 minutes). Have any of you experienced this after surgery on your babies? Am I being a worry wart? |
I am not an expert-but if a person does this after surgery (i am a nurse) we worry about pneumonia or aspiration. Also possible side effect from anesthesia. I would call the vet and watch for a temp. |
I don't think you're being a worry wart. Anytime you introduce tubes in the throat (trachea) and are invading the airway, there is reason for concern and aftercare. So, if there is a chance of fluid on the lungs - I'd call the vet right away. It could be nothing, but bc she recently was intubated, there is a chance it could be something - so you'd want to look into this. :) |
Emergency Room Diagnosis: Tracheitis Thx so much for your advice. As soon as I read your responses last night we elected to take Bailey to the emergency vet. Good thing we did! When my vet put the tube down her throat for the oxygen during her spay they expanded the cuff bulb to much in her trachea, resulting in "visible inflammation in the cervical tracheal region." The emercency vet shot her up with steriods and antiflammatory & put her on a antibiotic & a drug called Clavamax for the congestion. As soon as they did this at the hospital she was feeling better. I am glad there were no tares! That would have taken the problem to a whole other level. Either way this could have been deadly as her lungs slowly continued to fill with that mucus. The emergency vet faxed all the info to my vet and told me my vet was definately at fault. They gave me a copy of the xrays and said that my vet needs to see the damage done. |
I am so glad you took her to ther er vet. Hopefully she will feel much better now and heal fast. |
I'm so glad you took her to the ER. Hoping she gets better soon! |
I hope she is well soon-glad you took her to the vet-I am sure you are relieved to know the cause. |
