HELP...first time sick..!!! maggie has vomited 4-5 times in the last half hour..the first 2 times it was very thick (almost solid) and every time after it got thinner until the last time it was almost clear and foamy... i also think she was running a fever...although she doesnt FEEL warm anymore i do not have a thermometer... she did not get into or eat anything abnormal..that i know of her nose is still wet and her just poo'ed and pee'd what can i do to settle her belly?? what should i do??? 9 |
How about making a vet appointment or at least go out and buy a thermometer? Better safe than sorry as these little ones can fade away fast. |
when you give her something to eat does she bring it right back up? |
i just called the vet and they told me not to give her any food or water until tomorrow and to keep an eye on her??!!! is that it??? |

i have to disagree with your vet.. i would NOT withold water no matter what... I would try feeding her.. if she throws it up.. then yes i would withold food until tomorrow. but i would keep encouraging her to drink water.. you do NOT want her to get dehydrated. Tomorrow i would try feeding her again... if she still throws it up i would boil chicken breasts and white rice and feed her that until she is able to keep something down. I would also try givng her some pro biotic yogurt to help get back the good bacteria in her tummy that she needs. Don't worry (i know.. easier said than done) it's very scary.. especially when it is the first time she has been sick... but we've all been there :) let me know if you have any more questions and try feeding her to see if it will stay down. |
thats what i thought!!! i could not imagine not even water??!! i have been in the hospital w/my son for dehydration...i know how fast it happens... i will take ur advice... she is sleeping rite now,i think the throwing up has stopped now(i hope) thank you much appreciated i will update!! |

How old is Maggie and how much does she weigh. I have dogs get sick to their stomach occasionally and I always just give them a little Nutri-cal or karo syrup and water to help settle their stomach. I have never withheld food for a long period of time. Once her stomach settles down just give her small amounts of food. I don't believe in changing their diet drastically because that could cause more problems. A little cottage cheese or boiled egg mixed in with her regular food would be okay. |
just wanted to update and say thank you for easing my mind... Maggie is back to normal today eating, playing and holding down her regular food thank you for the support!!! |
Great news!!! |
Glad to hear Maggie is doing much better! |
