What is her deal?! KaCee has been vomiting all day today. When I came home from work, the BF told me she had puked once this morning and since I've been home (4:30pm to now-11pm) she's thrown up 5 times. All of it with the exception of the last time a few minutes ago, the vomit has just been a clear/brown liquid. The last time was a pile of food. Other than the vomiting, she is acting just fine. She's eating, drinking, playing. Any suggestions or ideas what could be wrong? I'm keeping an eye on her, I know it doesn't take much to become dehydrated or hypoglycemic, but for now, she's acting fine. We are going to the vet in the morning...she's scheduled to be spayed, so we'll see what the vet thinks about it. |
I wish I could be of more help, but I really don't know. I hope she's better soon. :( |
I hope she's better soon too. Poor BF, she puked on his lap awhile ago! She was just laying there, then all of a sudden stood up and puked all over him!:D Hopefully it's nothing thats going to put off the spay. |
I would call your vet first thing in the morning to have her looked at. In the meantime, make sure she stays hydrated. You can use nutrical in water or just plain water. |
Oh I'm sorry you're baby isn't feeling well. Is sounds scary with so much vomitting. Keep her hydrated throughout the night! Good thing you're already scheduled to see the vet in the morning. Let us know what they say! |
If she is feeling sick, you might postpone the spay until she is back on her feet again. |
I agree about postponing her spay, but I'm sure your vet will advise. It's important for these guys to be in good health when undergoing any type of surgery. I think you were taking her in today — how did things go? I hope she's okay! |
Hope she is ok. Did she eat something she shouldn't or BF give her a little people food? |
Update! Well, she hasn't vomited since about midnight last night. The wierd thing about it was that it never seemed to phase her...she'd be playing, stop and puke, then right back to playing. I know she didn't eat anything here...BUT I did have to board her Friday and Saturday night, maybe she got into something there. Anyway, I just got home from the vet. They are a little concerned about the vomiting but since she's been fine today, they don't think they will postpone the spay UNLESS she vomits while in their care. They are really concerned about the hypoglycemia though. I told them that she hasn't had an episode since about January, but since liver shunts are so common in yorkies, they are doing some blood work to check it out. They will call me later on with the results of the CBC and CHEM and if all goes well, she will be spayed in the morning. |
CBC and CHEM won't necessarily show a problem in the liver like MVD or liver shunt unless the liver is quite damaged. You would need to have a bile acid test done to find out if there may be a problem in the liver that you're not aware of because a BAT is very sensitive to liver function... Prayers for your baby!!! I hope everything goes well for her! |
The vet school called and said KaCee's blood work came back perfect so we are still on for the spay in the morning. |
Let us know how it goes! My baby girl was spayed on Friday, she is less then 3 lbs and needed over ten baby teeth pulled. She did great! She is healing super fast and is already back to normal. I know the same will happen for yours! |

I know!! Ella Bean retained almost all her baby teeth! She is a rescue, so I think poor breeding contributed to that...Luckily she made it without a hitch and now she will be healthy her whole life! I am glad Kacee won't need that done - one less thing to worry about!! |
The vet school called to tell me that KaCee woke up from surgery and is doing just fine. They are watching her overnight and I get to pick her up when I get off work tomorrow afternoon. |
