OMG-I am sooo mad and he is sick!!! I took Ace to the vet for the coughing-he has some fluid in his lungs and is wheezing some-like allergies. Also did a stool specimen and he has Coccidia  !!!! The lady I got him from gave me a medicine for him when I picked him up for "car sickness" because it was a 5 hour drive-IT WAS the medicine for Coccidia. I didn't use it b/c he was great in the car. He has only had diarrhea the first few days I had him-I assumed due to stress or slow diet change. I gave him some pumpkin and it firmed up-I feel so terrible now!! So, he is on Amoxil, Albon, and Benadryl. That lady LIED to me and it could have killed him!!!! I am sooo sad :(! |
Poor Ace. Feel better soon. Glad you are a good mommmy and got him all cheked out. He sounds like he is in good hands now.:) |
Sorry about your sick baby, I'm sure with a good momma like you he will be better in no time! Too bad the breeder wasn't honest with you in the first place!!! |
Hope Ace will be on the mend soon. It is very sad that you were lied to that way but at least you did the right thing in taking him to the Vet. All the Best! |
You should contact Ace's breeder and get her to pay your vet bill IMO. She tried to pull a fast one on you and sold you a sick puppy. |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the last AKC Gazette, there was a notice. The AKC's Management Disciplinary Committee has suspended the following individuals from all AKC privileges for an additional six months and imposed a $500.00 fine for having submitted or caused to be submitted three litter registration applications that they knew, should have known, or had a duty to know contained false certifications (DNA exclusions). Effective April 7th. 2008 Ms. Merri Chaffin (Atoka, Ok) (Multiple Breeds) Since this does say "additional", it appears they have other suspensions on her. This may not stop people like this, but at least it's something. Of course, she can always go to other registries, but at least AKC has stepped in. I can't help but wonder if the Chaffins have someone else selling their dogs now? How many Yorkie breeders could there be in Atoka, Oklahoma??? |
I know and this worries me. I have been digging and googling but haven't found the connection yet. He was from Rose Kennels-just outside of Atoka. Maybe they took the Chaffins dogs?? WHO knows-what a mess-I hate being lied too!! |
I am so sorry poor Ace is sick. Praying he improves fast. Have you contacted the breeder? I would do so asap - or whoever she is. |

The answer is A LOT that is right in the area of all the puppymills. |
I am not holding up for this yorkie breeder, but ,as was stated on another topic. We all have coccidia in our body. Stress, helps to make it raise its ugly head. I also send Cocci medicines with my pups that I sell. My vet thinks that this is a very good idea, as most small breed pups will stress over the move, new food, different people. I tell people that this is for dieherra from the new home. I have had good success with doing this. There is nothing a breeder can do about the cocci., but forewarn the buyer and help out with it. |

No because Cocci is mostly dieherra. I tell them that there could be blood in the stool, so not to panic. I have them start treating the dog , as soon as they get it home. Most buyers are not interested enough to ask, what causes the dieherra. If they ask I tell them about the Cocci, that we all have in our system and that the medicine will help out stopping it. It is like when I get upset over something, stressed, I will get dieherra. To me there is no deceptiveness in it. I am trying to avoid the buyers a vet trip and more money spent. I have not had one person not be appreciative of my giving them the heads up on it. I am trying to be a good breeder |

The deceptiveness was that I was told it was a medicine for car sickness. And, it can become more than diarrhea. Ace has been to the vet three times in 2 weeks and I have only had him since the tenth. And it is just plain unfortunate that buyers who need to be educated are buying puppies thinking all is well. And then BOOM-here we go-sick furbaby. Most buyers don't ask because they don't know too. :( |
Honesty is always the best policy. When the health of a puppy is at stake...the don't ask/don't tell just doesn't cut it. Sorry this is just the way I feel about it. Anyway, I sure hope Ace recovers quickly now that you are aware of what you're dealing with. Get well soon baby boy...I'm praying for you! |

He is doing a better-to some extent. Still raspy and coughing and on our second round of antibiotics. We completed the Albon for the coccidia yesterday-YAY!!!! I am a little shocked at the lies. He is my first furbaby-I am totally in love-but am disheartened at the whole experience. Deception is a form of lying and I was upset he was dealing with something-that had I just been told he had it and needed the medicine-I would have been sure to give it and not toss it in the trash. I am a nurse-for goodness' sake! |
I'm so happy that baby is with you...and doing better. As for the other stuff...I have already said enough. |
I'm so sorry you've had to go through this! It's so horrible that you're breeder lied to you. I hope you contact her and have her do something about this. She should at least pay for your vet bills. I'm glad your baby is doing better. I'll pray for a speedy full recovery! |
I am so very sorry that you had this negative experience. It is a good thing that you were diligent and carried little Ace to the vet. |
I resent you calling me a puppymill. You don't even know me nor my kennel. You are trying to stir up mud and I don't do that. I am telling the truth. I was trying to help the situation, not make snide remarks about some one that I don't know. So sit back on your throne and keep judging. I guess that some times education isn't the best answer. |

When we got our Maltese many years ago, he had coccidia but did not even have diarrhea or blood in the stools. |

When we got our Maltese puppy, he had coccidia. The vet at that time told me this was very common in puppies and that stress from the change is a major cause. If you do a search on coccidia, you will find that stress is a major cause. I'm not sure why someone called you a puppymill. Your information is accurate. |
My breeder had coccidia show up in her home but none showed up in Ozzy's litter and none showed any symptoms. My breeder is a wonderful small show breeder. She told me what is was and sent the meds home with us. Ozzy never showed any signs but I gave the meds anyway. She was honest and open about it and that makes her a great breeder in my eyes and why I will get my second Baby from her. It's not a puppy mill issue it's a parasite they can pick up anywhere. It's how the breeder handles it that is the issue I guess. |

Thank you Puppy Love and Mainegirl. I just try to help people out in the understanding of problems that can pop up. I also am death on making sure that they understand about Hypogloxmeia. I even have a printed sheet of symtoms and how to treat it, if it happens to their puppy. Of course my statement also says that if not responding in 20 minutes go to the vet. I agree that the breeder was wrong not stating what the medicine was for, correctly. I guess she didn't want to say coccidea. |
