yorkie+ bull frog =? Can a yorkie get sick from trying to bite a bull frog. the frog crawled hopped away but Bear is licking his chops funny? I am watching him but its almosdt bedtime..Do I delay bed or just definetly get up tonight a couple times and check on him? He sleeps through the night so...? |
I have heard that some frogs and toads have something on their skin that other animals react to if licked.....maybe look it up on the net? Good luck! |
I think that some frog's defense is excreting a poison when a predator bites it. Usually this is a toad, not just an ordinary frog. This is only my opinion here, I'm not a vet, but I don't think the poison would be sufficient to be lethal to your dog. It would probably numb the tongue and mouth area. The other possibility is that frogs pee when you touch them, and your baby could have gotten that in his mouth, which you gotta think would be nasty!! I'd keep checking on your baby tonight. Unless you see some other loss of conscientiousness or other bad signs -- then I'd go straight to a vet ER. Good luck. |
thanks YT's Bear is fine thankfully.. |
I grew up in house on hill with three ponds in front yard. My Scottie once grabbed a bullfrog and promptly let him go. Strathpeffer literally foamed at the mouth for several minutes afterward and seemd to try to spit or something for an hour or so afterward. He suffered no ill effects. These frogs/toad do secrete something as a natural defense. We did not take him to vet because my father, a physician, was home and was watching him. Now that I have a small Yorkie, I might head to vet if it kept up over five minutes. Tricia H. |
Glad to hear everything is okay. |
Some of the poisons that toads and frogs use as defense can KILL your Yorkie as well as large breeds of dogs. Please keep them away from all toads and frogs. |
