please help!!!! Please help, Cody had a seizure!!!!! Why would that happen????? Taking him to the vet on Monday, but in the meantime. Can someone help? |
My personal opinion is that you need to get to vet asap. |
You need to take him to an emergency veterinarian pronto... Seizures can be caused by hypoglycemia...left untreated and it is possibly fatal. Other things that cause seizures...liver shunt, epilepsy, poisoning..to name a few. I don't think waiting until Monday is a wise decision. Puppies do not just have seizures for no reason. |
I don't know anything about your particular case, but it could be liver shunt, hypoglycemia, or eating something toxic. Please share more information. How long was the seizure? How old is Cody? What are you feeding him and how often? Has he been eating okay? How is he acting right now? |

I have a Papillon pup of now 6 months, but about a month ago we suspect she had a seizure. I have a video of her after it and still shaking. We took her to the vets ASAP. She was constantly shaking and could not hold her own weight. It couldnt have been hypoglycemia as she eats CONSTANTLY. Everything she can get her grubby little paws on. The vet suspected that she might have epilepsy and had to be monitored. It seems to be triggered by undue stress or excitement. Ill post the video when im back in my own home. If I remember! |
At 7 months, I would venture to say it's something other than idiopathic epilepsy. Has your baby been bile acid tested? |

It is not an emergency, but Cody needs to see a vet asap for tests, especially a bile acids test. Since Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined, I'd suspect that first. Here is some information for you: The University of Tennessee - College of Veterinary Medicine - Portosystemic Shunts Canine epilepsy and diseases that cause seizures in dogs |
A bile acid test is relatively inexpensive and definitely worth it. Liver problems are the first thing I would rule out. |
Bailey had a seizure a week ago 2 in the space of 2days i took him straight to the vet which did blood tests on him .. his liver is fine but he might have epilepsy. I know how horrible it is when it happens as i was there both times it happened. Fingers crossed he aint had any more and i hope its just a one off thing or if he does have epilepsy that its just gonna be a seizure every 6 months or so. Go to the vet and have blood tests done as it might b his liver. I hope that it you little one is ok and everything turns out ok, good luck. |
I don't have any advice for you, other than what others have said, but I just wanted to say I hope everything is okay. Let us know how your vet visit goes on Monday! |
hmm Alphy's had dreams wherein he's been in some pretty deep sleep and twitchy. Maybe it was just something like that. I've seen dogs sleep with their eyes open before I hope it's nothing serious |
