Help needed now! Please I took my four month old Barclay to the vet today for his regular visit. He got three shots, rabies, distemper and bordetella. That was at 6:00PM. When we returned home he was himself, playing, running and jumping. Until about 15 minutes ago, when he came up on my lap and yelped when I went to pick him up. Everytime I pick him up he yelps in pain! He is just lying on the sofa now, very sad and not moving for a bone or a treat. Very guarded, he is awake, his nose is wet and he seems very quiet. Could this be a reaction or just pain at the injection site. I need to know if anyone else has experienced this with their baby! |
I haven't experienced this. I am really not sure. Please call your vet asap! |
It is probably just sore I remember Bailey doing that..but you could call and ask them. Sometimes all those shots at once have a reaction but since he's ok.. it's probably just sore. Last time Bailey got 2 at once he itched for 2 days and they put it on his chart to not do those 2 at the same time again. |
Brooklyn was the same way. It took about a day and a half for her to be back to normal after her shots. In fact she goes back tomorrow night for the next round...ugh! |
Thank you guys for answering. I did call the hospital. They said they are there 24 hours, but they think it may be just sore. Kind of like Brooklyn's experience. Did Brooklyn yelp when you tried to pick her/him up? He looks so sad and sore, I feel so helpless and scared. It's not like him at all, he's usually so energetic |

THank you, thank you, thank you! I just said to my daughter, you guys are the best, I don't know what I would do without YT:) I feel so much better. Should I put him in his crate as usual or should I just leave him on the sofa!! Sorry, I just want him to be as comfortable as possible. |
I did the usual routine. Brooklyn goes in her crate to sleep at night. If you are up for a while and he is comfy with you on the couch...enjoy! |
Thank you for replying so quickly, I will do as you did with Brooklyn and stick to the routine, he'll yelp but probably feel more secure there. I am just afraid if I fall asleep on the sofa he might fall off. Thank you again for all you help, I won't forget it! |
Glad i could help ease your mind a little! Have a good night!:D |
Next time ask for the rabies shot seperately and don't be suprised if he gets a bump/lump at the injection site it is normal. Glad you feel better. |

I hope little Barclay will be his normal self in the AM (I'm sure he will). |
It's possible he has pain from the injection site. He might be feeling sore. Can you tell if there is any redness or swelling at the site? There may be a small lump, but that is normal as long as there is no swelling or redness. I would watch him, and if he isn't better in the morning, call the vet. Of course, if he starts acting any worse, I wouldn't wait. Good luck! I will say a prayer for him! |
My little guy, was exactly the same! He cried when he received the shot and he cried everytime I touched him the evening thereafter. My female on the other hand was completely different, with no effects whatsoever. |
