Sissy was always a little sleepier than the other babies but I just thought that was her nature. When Sissy was 6 months old she had her first seizure. She was completely for awhile after, she couldnt even hold her head up. It freaked me out and I rushed her into the vet. The vet at first thought she was having an allergic reaction to something. He said to keep an eye on her. Not even 2 weeks later it happened again but even worse. She was completely paralyzed and would stare out into nowhere land. On the way to the ER vet she pooped out a ton of blood.... alot of it all over me...of course I freaked again. They kept her overnight, they gave her fuids and other meds through IV. They did bloodwork and an ultrasound that night. The vet there said she suspected LS and to see my regular vet the following day. When I went in the following day he looked over her bloodwork and said to come back in 2 weeks for another bile acid test which we did and it was high again.
I told him all of her symptons and what was going on and with her lab results and he said LS too. I still didnt want to believe it and thought I should see yet another vet so I went to the college here and they did an ultrasound too and were unsure of wwhat they were seeing but said her liver didnt look normal. I started her on marin, lactulose and denosyl along with Royal canin hepatic and Hills L/D canned food their treats are fresh fruits and veggies and a variety of dried fruit which they love ( usually from the grocery store). She was doing alot better. So I left it alone. A couple of months ago she jhad another really bad episode and so did her brother Diesel I took them both in to the specialist and they really strongly recommended me doing the best for my babies and get it fixed. Of course I wanted the best for them so I worked up the strength to be able to take them in. It sound s silly but it was soooo hard for me to drop them off not knowing what my end results were gonna be, especially for Diesel since he has been so sick lately. I tried giving them the right supplements, food and treats and still they arent doing well so of course the next logical thing is to have it fixed. So this past tueday morning I drop these babies off thinking to have a new start and have their LS surgery and spay and neuter at once. After 2 hours for Sissy being under the vet clls and says she couldnt find a shunt.... I was crushed to say the least. She did take 6 biopsies from her though to see what is going on and did a portogram. She did say her liver was smaller than it should be. I asked her if we should even cut into my little guy since she didnt find anything on her and theyre siblings. She said "oh no Im pretty sure were gonna find a shunt on him especially since hes so symtomatic". So we went ahead with it. He was under for 2 1/2 hours. They even did 2 extra ultrasounds on him, 1 while he was opened up and 1 after they stitched him to be sure. He also had biopsies and portogram done. She finally called and gave me the news of nothing. Oh my gosh was I crushed! I felt like I cut them up for nothing she reassured me that they wouldve had to do it for biopsies anyway. SO thats where we are at right now just waiting for those biopsies to come back. Diesel is pretty bruised up and both their incisions are a good 5 inches. Sissy is stitched so nicely and Diesel is all jagged.... I dont know why. Im sure I missed something but thats kinda it in a nutshell. I will let everyone know the biopsy results. I hope my experience will halp someone elses baby one day and lead them in the right direction without all the expense and heartache and last but definitel not least the pain these guys are going through. Thanks again everyone. YOur support here really meand alot to me. Ive been feeling guilty not getting on and posting but just havent had the chance. Thanks Candy and Linda for posting for me!! I will keep everyone updated as soon as I hear the results. These babies and myself would love more than anything to have this behind us and be feeling like healthy little Yorkies!
