Milligram to milliltre conversion? Hi guys, Ziggy is really stuffed up and sneezing lots so I thought I would try some Children's Benadryl on him. He is 12 pounds and according to the chart I found on OTC Medications it says to give him 12 milligrams. What the heck is that in millilitres or even teaspoons? Thanks |
Do you have the pills or liquid? I have the 25 mg pills and my vet said I could give Lady half a tablet which would be 12 mg. Lady weighs about 8 pounds. |
Its the liquid-the 'under age 2 dose' is 2.5ml which is a half a teaspoon. That's for kids 24 pounds and under. |
I'd check with your vet to be safe. |
Milligrams and milliliters are two different things. You have to know how many milligrams (mgs) in one milliliter (ml or CC) . Every drug is different and has different concentrations. On the package it should tell you something like "12mgs in each 2.5mls" or "5mgs per ml". So if the dose is 2.5mls, how many mgs dose it say the doseage is? ( 25mgs or 12.5mgs or something else)? I'm like Ladymom. I keep 25mg tabs on hand and can half or quarter them when needed for the dogs/cats. The tabs are easier to give than the liquid, IMO. Check with your vet for a correct dose per you baby's weight. |
