I need support and knowledge. I do not post often, but I have learned so much from reading other threads on this site. Right now I'm frustrated and worried about my 2 year old Yorkie. About two weeks ago she became extremely odd and completely out of character. She also chronically shaked as if she were cold or had a fever. I immediately took her to the vet and turned out, she did have fever and a sore throat. I gave her the medication and after 6 days nothing changed. Her behavior remained odd and the shakes continued. When I took her back the vet said her fever was gone, as well as the sore throat. When he examined her he said that her knees were bothering her...she was in pain. I'd need to get her legs fixed. No problem because I expected this to happen one day. And it made complete sense. I found a specialist to do the surgery and took her in for a pre-op appointment. The new vet looked her over and even watched her walk. She concluded that yes, she does indeed need this surgery very badly but it appeared that she also has done something to her neck. That must be where her pain is coming from. So now the new vet gave her some pain reliever, muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory. It's been three days on all those meds and still nothing has changed. She still eats and drinks normally as well as goes to the restroom as normal. Has anybody ever had a similar experience because I've become extremely frustrated, worried and upset. I also lost my job 2 months ago from downsizing and the vet bills are costing me so much. If you have any kind of insight to a problem like this, I would appreciate it so very much. Thanks, Misty |
I don't have any ideas on what might be up but was wondering if the vet did x-rays? |
We have not done X-rays yet, but I'm sure they will be done soon. I think the new vet was trying to save me some money and hoping that the meds along with bed rest would help. When I call the office first thing in the morning I will be asking about x-rays. (the vet did say she takes x-rays the morning of the surgery while the dog is sedated.) |
Please send a PM to BLEU BOY BARBER - she has dealt with neck issues with her Bleu. I pray this isn't as severe for your baby. Bleu's mom is Vicki - she also is in Texas. You should also contact mybaby4me - she has dealt for a long time with neck issues with her BabyBear I pray this is not AIA Please keep us updated. |

Thanks for the info. I will look up AIA as I have never heard of it. I'm still not 100% convinced that it is all in her neck. Every morning we wake up I pray that she's all better by some magical miracle. No such luck this morning. |
I can't help you in any way but want to forward prayer's for your baby and wish her a speedy recovery. |

Babybear's mom what you want to do is look up Altantoaxial Instability.. I have a lot of information on this is you would like to give me your email addy through PM and I can send it to you.. Also if you have a minute and can go to Babybear's dogster page I do have information in his story on the right hand side of the page and how we have had such a rough go at it with his AAI(Altantoaxial Instability). Babybear broke his neck do to AAI before we knew what he had.. So please treat your baby like a china doll until you know for sure this is what your vet is treating her for. And ask questions.. Here is Babybear's dogster page www.dogster.com/dogs/136060. Please read his page and I will send you my Email addy through PM so you can get more information to learn more about it.. I am really sorry you are going through so much.. It is hard but we are here to support you.. |
Just wanted to say I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers... |
Thank you all once again. I was just telling Val that I have moments where I feel completely helpless and want to just lose it, but then something positive is sent my way. Misty |
I am so glad you made contact with Val. I pray this is not what you are dealing with. But being educated is one of the most important things |
When you say shaking does she still shake when in a resting position and her head is down (meaning head even with her body)? |
surgery Unless, she is in pain with her knees..I would think long and hard about putting her through it. The head shaking sounds like an essential tremor..but would go very slow with any surgery if she all else fine..but that is JMO..I am not a vet. |
Misty, How is she doing today? |
How is your baby doing??? Sending prayers for you and her. |
