Chloe has broken back leg My baby was " tapped" by a truck last night, we think. Could'nt of been that bad because she is in one peice. Sort of.... She is 5 months old and the xray shows a clean break above her right knee. She also has a clean break in her small pelvis bone. The emergency vet said that that will heal well on its own, but she will need surgery on the leg. I am going to take her to our regular vet in the morning. He said he thinks they will pin it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will it work? Will she have pain forever? Will she be able to run and play. How much is this going to cost us!?! Unfortunatly we do not have a money tree in our backyard. I'm freaking OUT!!! Thanks in advance for any comments! |
I am so sorry to hear about Chloe. Hoping someone will respond quickly and give you advice in this area to ease your mind some about your precious little girl. |
Do you think she be ok...I'm just sick |
Same thing happened to my neighbors dog a little over a month ago! It broke his heel and pelvis....poor thing..... But now he's fine! You wouldn't know anything was wrong with him if he didn't have the satelite around his neck and his lil blue cast! He runs and everything already! Don't worry she'll be just fine! I worked for a vet and smaller dogs came in with injuries similar to this all the time...they would usually milk their mommies and daddies for all its worth! But unfortunately its a common procedure, especially using pins......Just give her lots of love! She'll be running around in no time!;) |
I think the neighbors cost was over $2,000.00 but its a bit of a larger dog.....and Imo they really got overcharged! From my experience at the vet the pins ran around 600.00........ |
She's just so small ( 4lbs) and it horrible to watch her be in any pain. I really think the splint that they put on her in the ER is doing more harm than good. It's funny how the vet says " Oh this is so common and not a big deal" but then they need you to refinance your house to pay for it. |
Thank you very much for your kind words... |

Yeah.. its called buprxine..i think...I would have to go look. It worked really well for a while but wore off I guess. She's pretty uncomfortable. I called the ER vet and asked if I could give her more and they said no, not untill 7:00 tonight. Needless to say, it's been a long day. |

Thanks... I'll call right now. I did'nt even think of that |
So sorry to hear about Chloe. I'll keep her in my prayers that the fractures heal up well and that soon she'll be able to run around and play. For now just make sure she doesn't do much running around because you don't want her to hurt it worse. |
Sending hugs and prayers for your baby. Sheilagh |
Thank you all so much, I feel very welcome in this wonderful community. My vet called to check in with us...I'm taking her in @ 8am, she should have surg by noon and back home by Tuesday. She has eaten some food, taken some water from a syringe and is sleeping quietly right now. I'm waiting as long as I can with the meds right now so I can give them late, so at least she sleeps through the night. Thanks again! Sarah and Chloe |
I just went through the broken leg part!! they put 2 pins in Banjo's leg and a Tension plate- so far it has been about $1500 !!But he is doing good I live in Mo. and had it done at the vet school! I am sorry your girl got hurt- I know just how you feel- I was sick over it- and just cried and cried! Best wishes for tomorrow!! I am sure it will all be fine, and will be praying for a fast recovery |
