Paw problem... I don't know if this is the right area for this, but I figure I would post it here. Last night our three month and three week old puppy decided to be like her sister and jump off our bed. We think she may have landed wrong or missed the blankets because she started to cry and then wouldn't walk on her front paw. After getting her to calm down, we let her sleep on our bed and she didn't move hardly the whole night. This morning, she seemed the same. She still won't walk on her paw. She at first, wouldn't let us even touch it, but now she lets us touch it and press on it a bit. It doesn't feel broken to my fiancé so he thinks she may have bruised it badly. I want to take her to the vet, but with the prices these days and the fact that our vet wouldn't be able to get us in until tomorrow, were thinking maybe if we just try and keep her off her paw she might get better. I don't know if this has happened to any of your puppies, but if it has, do you have any advice? I know taking her to the vet would be the best thing, but like I said ,they can't even get us in until tomorrow. Thank in advance. |
I would definitely take your puppy to the Vet. I understand the expense of the visit, but it could end up costing you more, later. Sheila |
I agree with Sheila. You should take your dog to the vet. You should call around your area for vets and compare prices, you can search using www.yelp.com. |
I agree, you need to see a vet. |
We called another vet today and asked to come in. They asked us what happened and things like that. After explaining everything they told us that if we could press on her paw without her crying or pulling away then she most likely bruised it. They said that if she doesn't walk on it in a few days to call back and they will bring us in right away. I feel a LOT better now that I actually talked to a vet that seemed to know what he was talking about. I think were going to stay with this vet for a long time. |
i'm sorry but if something happened to my puppy to cause it to limp and not use a leg i would take it in to the vet for an x-ray. Puppies have bones like butter and they break really easily. i've seen it time and time again. For peace of mind, i'd go get an x-ray. If it is broken, the longer you wait, the harder it is to fix. |
Well the first vet can't do an x-ray at their place, the second vet can. We may take her to the emergency vet for an x-ray seeing as they may be the only ones that have an x-ray machine they could use. |

We took her to the emergency vet, she got an x-ray and they said that things seem to be fine. They said they can't see anything broken so they think she knocked it really hard or just slightly bruised it. She walked around a bit there but didn't really put too much pressure on her foot, so I'm guessing thats a good sign. They gave us the name and number to one of their vets and told us to give them a call tomorrow and see about getting her in there for a visit. So I'm thinking while were there I can get hers (Legacy) and her sister (Impreza)'s shots done since we needed to have that done this month anyways. Thank you everyone who responded. I showed this thread to my fiancé who then decided that yes we should take her to the vet. His grandmother kept telling us no, but then again when both her dogs were sick she didn't even want them to go to the vet. I am new at this. This is mine and his very first time actually owning our own pets without the help of our parents, so were just a little nervous and werid about everything. |
Went to the vet today. They wrapped Legacy's leg and paw and told us to make sure she tries to keep off of it as much as possible. They said it def. wasn't broken, and that in about a week or so she should be able to walk on it again. So she's resting on her bed right now and her sister is laying next to her. Thanks again to everyone who replied. |
I'm so glad Legacy's ok, and good luck keeping her off her feet it for a week. ;) Sheila |
Thanks, we only let her walk around when she starts whining she has to potty, other then that she is either on the couch or bed with one of us right there with her. |
