Question about spaying... Chelsea (5 months) is getting spayed on Friday.... The vet told me to bring her in on Thursday, they do the surgery on Friday, and pick her up on Saturday....is that normal??? I'm just wondering because all of the other dogs that I have had I took them early in the morning and picked them up that evening. Also, any advice on after the surgery? I have an ex-pen to put her in to keep her from jumping up on the couch, etc. |
Normally, you drop them off the same day of the surgery and they can leave that day or the next. I hated leaving mine one night nevermind two. I would call to find out why and see if you could bring her in early in the morning instead. |
I wonder why they are going to keep her that long?? I brought mine in and was in the operating room with them, I was the one they woke to in recovery and then we stayed about 45 minutes to make sure they were waking up Ok and then we went home!! I had 2 tiny girls spayed on the same day! I would question their reasons and take it from there. Good luck! |
i agree unless there is a good reason for them keeping her i wouldnt leave her there that long. lacey was home the same day after her surg, she also had a liver biopsy done and weighs 3 lbs 2 ozs. she did just fine comming home that day. |
Tessa was spayed on Wednesday. I dropped her off in the morning and picked her up in the afternoon. Usually the dog would be dropped off the night before, have surgery in the morning then go home in the afternoon but I requested that I bring her in the morning instead because I didn't want her left alone overnight. My vet didn't have a problem with this. Staying overnight for 2 nights seems to be excessive?:confused: |

When I was on several rescue groups and fostered, I had quite a few females spayed by different Vets. and not once was one kept over night. They tell you not to give food after 6pm the night before and take up water by 8 am, drop the dog off between 8 & 10 am and pick up around 4 or 5 pm. Sounds like you could be charged for the time spent in the cage. I wouldn't do it. I'd find a better Vet. |
I wish i would have known that most dogs aren't kept overnight. I hate having my dogs stay overnight whenever they get home they will go to the bathroom in the yard for like a good 15 minutes. I dont think they get let out enough. Has anyone else noticed that? |
bella was spayed november last year and was home the same day. also i put her in her pen but she was jumping up trying to get out:rolleyes:so i just let her roam free. she was jumping and i was stressed out trying to stop her from being too hyper:) she did great and was a little trooper. try not to worry too much as they are stronger babies than they look. best wishes xxx |
