Does anyone know anything about the drug Torbutrol? My 3 pound yorkie was given a prescription for Torbutrol after having elbow surgery. I am worried about giving her a whole tablet. She is so little! From what I understand, it is similar to morphine. That's scary! I would be very greatful for any input. Thank you!! |

i just checked my bottle of Torbutrol and it is a 5 mg tablet. My Yorkie weighs 5.8 lbs and her dosage was 1/4 - 1/2 tablet every 6-8 hrs. If your dog is only 3 lbs a WHOLE tablet is way too much IF it's a 5 mg tablet. Check the mg that it is on the bottle. |
I don't know... found this. # Butorphanol is available in 1 mg, 5 mg and 10 mg tablets. # Butorphanol is also available in 0.5 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml, 2 mg/ml and 10 mg/ml injectable form. # A 10 mg/ml nasal spray is also available. Dosing Information # To control pain, butorphanol is dosed at 0.05 to 0.4 mg per pound (0.1 to 1 mg/kg) two to six times per day. |
Found this on line doing a search for Torbutrol dosage... The usual oral dose of TORBUTROL is 0.55 mg of butorphanol base activity per kg of body weight. This is the equivalent of one 5 mg tablet per 9 kg (20 lb) check the mg of your Torbutrol before giving otherwise you will overdose your dog!!!!! |
