Sonja, I'm so sorry to hear your Mitzi girl is sick and I hope you and the vet can get her feeling better soon.

When Tink was so sick last summer and her liver and kidneys were failing, we did sub-cutaneous water and it helped her enormously - but again, she was really sick and could hardly drink. That's when I started her on home cooked broth and home cooked meat and vegetables, mostly chicken and beef. My vet wanted her on Science Diet, but I didn't want to put her on it for the same reason - corn allergies. The vets at the emergency hospital were all in favor of home cooked.

I'm sure there are some on YT that can help you more with Mitzi's needs. I'm sending up some prayers for your special girl and you.:hands: :hands:

we are dealing with pancreatitis too with both of our yorkies and the specialist said to feed LOW fat and high fiber. they currently are on Wellness wgt mgt it has 6 % fat and 8 % fiber but i would like more info on low fat and the freeze dried raw. We have had extreme abounts of protein in the urine. the last upc ratio was 7.3. Is your dog on any med's? we are giving benazeperil. ( I have a post on here titled Protein loss in urine)
the Amylase and Lipase levels are VERY high also and have been since 6/2007I want to talk to a nutritionist also because i really want whats best for my babies and I don't want to put them on prescription diet :-(

Thank you all so very much for all your prayers and good wishes! Mitzi is doing better today. She was even chasing the geese off the boardwalk... LOL! Those geese are twice her size but she doesn't care! She eats her prescription food now. The dogtor said we have to try it b/c that's what she needs right now and we will deal with any skin problems later. Hmmmmm... I sure hope he's right! Anyway, her bad breath is gone and she seems to feel better all together. Please keep her in your prayers...

Sonja i am so sorry to hear this about Mitzi. My baby booboo has problems with his liver so he is on a diet with a very low protein and he is also on lactulose which keeps his liver clean from all the crap. I really hope she'll get better soon. Lots of hugs and kisses to all of u. You are in my thoughts and prayers:ghug:

What does the vet hope to accomplish with the antibiotics?

What are you supplementing her homecooked diet with?
Oatmeal is high in phosphorus and beef might be.
Oatmeal should probably be avoided.

Mitzi has an infection in her mouth and maybe a lingering bronchitis too. That's what the antibiotics are for. Since yesterday I'm feeding her Hill's k/d food. Yesterday she ate it with big appetite but today she refused it and was shaking uncontrollably. When I gave her some chicken she ate it and stopped shaking. Im waiting for the Vet to call back to hear what we should do...

Because of the corn allergy, I really do think that since homecooking is best, a nutritionist could help.

The dry K/D has ethoxyquin in it and the canned has pork which may be hard on the liver. Maybe check the phos. in the L/D canned? I think it is a bit of a better food.

I'm sitting here in tears b/c our Vet just told me that it is going to be a matter of time for our precious baby...
