In Desperate Need of Help! Not sure what is wrong. My Bandit is 3 months old. We treated him for hypoglycemia about a month ago, he got better and was all most back to normal, now he's just not acting right and not sure what to do or what it could be. We keep sugar water down for him and he will not drink that or regular water, he's eating some, not much. He is CONSTANTLY walking, pacing, will not be still for anything, he goes from one end of the house to the other, climbs on the couch and gets down, circles the kitchen, down the hall, over and over again. He is not making any noises and when he walks it's kinda sideways. He will not play AT ALL and if you get up and move he is right on your heels. You can call his name and he doesnt even respond, he doesnt mind, it's like he cant even hear you. Please help, any advice is GREATLY appreciated. |
I would take him to the vet ASAP!! He still might have hypoglycemia problems or even a shunt. He doesnt sould like he is acting normal at all. Do you have nutrical? Give him some of that, about an inch or a blob of karo syrup. Please take him to the vet!!! |
We have given him some nutrical and now he will not eat it. I think I might try some syrup and see if that helps, he will not drink any pedilight either. We are going to call the vet in the morning. Thanks! |
Oh no, walking sideways is a neurologic symptom. Does he ever just walk in circles or push his head of against a solid object or shake after eating? He needs to be bile acid tested to check for liver shunt immediately. |
No, he doesn't push his head against anything, or shake after eating. We are going to take him to the vet and get him tested. After the nutrical, syrup, and sugar water last night, he's a whole new puppy this morning, chasing everyone. But he still needs to be checked out. Thanks! |
I agree with the other posters. He needs a bile acids test asap to check for a liver shunt. They are 36 times more common in Yorkies than all other breeds combined. He is showing some of the symptoms. Depending on the results of his BAT, you may need to see a neurologist. |
Hoping you get some good news with your Vet visit!! Best of Luck! |

he will have no choice in eating it if you put it on the tip of your finger and open his mouth and put it in. But, he could also have a liver shunt condition. Please take him to the vet. |
I hope the vet was able to help him today. |
Just checking for an update.... |
I took Bandit to the vet yesterday, he is only 3.5 months old and I have had him since Feb 10th. The vet looked at him, set him down and he walked into the door, the vet said that he is blind, I told him that he couldnt be all the way blind because he can jump from the couch to the chair, he agreed that he is partially blind. He also said that he has either had a stroke, he could have meningitis, or he has some neurological problems. He kept Bandit said that he was going to run tests, give him a steroid shot and start him on antibiotics and he would call me in a few days and let me know if I needed to come get him or if he was going to have to put him down. It's really been hard on me and the kids, we are praying for the best! Thanks for all the support and I will let you know when I find more out. |
